Panthers Latest Salary Cap Figures.

Keep Pounding

Recommended Posts

I am not aware of the Panthers ever losing a player because of money, yet this is something fans consistently worry about. Panthers have never been big in free agency and never will. There is not a direct correlation between money spent and championships.

We build through the draft and pay our stars well. Fans complain when JR doesn't spend, then complain when he does. In a perfect world we could get players like Vincent Jackson for $2 million a year and guys would resign for cheap because they love us. However, this isnt reality.

Yes, I forgot to mention that we'd need D Will to regnotiate his contract. I'm not sure why we paid that much to resign D Will or C Johnson. I think that they both would've resigned for less, maybe I'm wrong though.

I don't think they overpaid Charles Johnson...he could have commanded the salary he was given on a lot of other teams (and many, Atlanta included, were very interested). He performed well the following season and is above and beyond the best player on the D-Line the Panthers have.

I was in favor of letting D-Will walk...I love him as a player but I didn't think he commanded the salary he got and that money could have been used to help shore up the defense. But, what's done is done, he does help the team, and maybe he'd be willing to restructure soon.

That's just enough to sign the Rookies. Then after June 1st. It shouldbe around 10 mill right?

I believe the rookies have already been included in the cap, all teams have to sit a certain percentage aside to sign draft picks, therefore the 5.8 million is what is leftover from players on team plus rookie pool.

The rookie cap has not been determined yet which is one reason the Indy has not negotiated with Luck . A decent explanation of how it's figured is @ http://www.eagles24x7.com/columns/NFL-News-and-Notes/How-the-NFLs-Rookie-Salary-Cap-Works

I wouldn't worry about all the numbers at this point. All rookies will be signed and the Panthers will not have any significant free agency signings unless you consider Shiockey significant. The rest of the guys they add via free agency will be cheap and for depth. This is how it has gone for the past 17 years.

There's no doubt that C Johnson is the best on the team. It just seems to me that Richardson was eyeing proving that he wasn't cheap instead of making good deals. But in hindsight, we've secured CJ and we needed to. I've always liked D Will but I think that his contract was too high, especially knowing that we'd need to resign Stew.
