Gannt Selects With #9 Pick...

If for one reason or another we select DeCastro at 9, could you see Hurney and co. moving up back into the first to take the best defensive player on our board available? Or do they wait to go D at the 40 spot?

If we go OG, then trade next years 1 to get back into the 1st, you guys will want me dead from all of the Hurney bashing that would take place.

We are building, we are not like the Steelers/Pats, we can't afford to lose next years draft picks.

People who think we should only focus on defense because it's awful must think our offense is absolutely perfect and untouchable and incapable of being figured out by opposing defenses for the entirety of Cam's career. The draft should be about getting the opportunity to improve your team in any way possible, not just improving the shittiest part of your team.

The same people that think it should be defense for the first 7 rounds are probably the same people that thought our 2010 defense didn't require much change going into the 2011 draft. Now look how huge of a weakness the defense is. You can cry about injuries all you want, but there is still a mess load of weak starters on that side of the ball. Nobody knows which side of the ball is going to improve or get worse next season. Anything can and will happen.

There's nothing wrong with improving our offense in the first round. Our offense actually looks respectable without being one-dimensional for the first time in a long time. Who wouldn't want to improve on that? I'd rather go the Patriots route and build upon your strengths instead of scrambling to fix your holes and coming out mid-tier and winning 7 games. They were one dropped pass from another championship. I think they may be onto something.

We drafted 2 DTs in 3rd round last year. That's pretty big investment.

But but but they suck. Doesn't matter we threw them out there week 1 with no offseason into a fire. Cox would have dominated in that horrific scenario.

Exactly. We drafted 2 DTs very high in the draft and most fans ready to replace em after only few games. That's not developing a player, that's throwing poo against the wall and hope it sticks. Fua and McClain will be major part of our rotation this year. Rivera said both Fua and McClain did extremely well for rookies.

Unless one of those Top 5 talents fell to us, I was really hoping we would take Gilmore. I hate OL picks in the first, mainly because they do the dirty work and there isn't anything flashy about it... But, it is necessary. And from everything I've heard about this guy, I couldn't be mad with the pick.

I still hope we address a skill position on defense first, but I trust whatever pick Hurney makes in the first.

Everyone forgets our rushing game has not been what it should have been with the capable backs in our backfield.

I am all for this pick. Take the best available whenever your in the first and even second rounds. No point in reaching for a raw DT while we have plenty of youngin's on the team already.

Not getting DTs in the first round =/= ignoring the position

I hope you were being sarcastic and I missed it.

I am not talking about first rounders, or last season.

I am talking about for the past 8 or 9 years the only dominate DT that we have had was Jenkins. We have needed help there for years, and we all but ignored it.

Edwards, Fua, and McClain were needed, but please don't tell me you think they are top tier players.
