Rivera And Hurney Meetings With Coples Again

quite possible. that is why I am not worried and nobody else should be. I have enough faith that they are able to see bullsh-t. I do not think there is any bullsh-t to worry about. Some do. Fine. My argument is that if there is, it won't sneak by Rivera.

So when people keep saying they don't like Coples because of his motivation and what will happen if he is rich I find it ludicrous. You have to admit that you don't trust Hurney or Riv with one of the easiest spots in the biz if you are generally worried that Coples is too "under-motivated" to be our pick at number 9.

That simply is not ever going to be the reason he won't work out.

ETA:

first step.. legit concern

You are correct, I don't trust Hurney in that situation.

Motivation issues are one of my pet peeves when it comes to drafting.

I prefer gamers, not players who are supremely talented, but lack the desire to be the best.

I still have nightmares of Vernon Gholston.

saving Hardy's motor for passing downs only would be an immediate impact IMO

Sure, I agree. But, we could definitely get a dead-ahead pass rusher that could alleviate Hardy in the 2nd round. In fact, the 2nd round of this draft has some awesome pass rushers. Whether it be Nick Perry, Vinny Curry, Whitney Mercilus, Jared Crick, or Andre Branch. All of those guys would help in the pass rushing game, and I believe, would give a similar impact (to our team) as Coples would.

What if the Panther's want to move him to DT where he's had the biggest season of any DT prospect in this draft? It wouldn't be that difficult for him to get up to 296 or so by the start of the season. He played the run really well as a DT and has excellent pass rush potential from the DT spot.

The reason I don't want Coples isn't a motor issues (I'm sure that'll be addressed) and it isn't an ability issue (he definitely has the ability). The reason I don't want Coples is because of the impact that he'll have immediately. Rivera said that he wanted a guy who was going to come in, make an immediate impact, and help the team as soon as he steps on the field.

For the first year, I believe it'll be Coples starting, and Hardy coming in certain situations. Is that an immediate impact? Well, kinda, yeah. But, when we select at #9, there should be other players on the board that are even more impactful players.

There should be Gilmore, who would not only immediately upgrade the #2 CB position, but allow Darius Butler to slide inside to the nickle, which would increase the play at that position, and it would allow Captain Munnerlyn to become a Special Teams monster, which would really help him out there, and make our Special Teams even better. That's why I really am starting to want Gilmore, because he allows for such an upgrade across the board.

Cox could be there, which would instantly generate more pass-rush on the inside, which would help out Hardy on the outside. Last season, our DTs didn't get any sort of push in the middle, and Cox could definitely upgrade that. So, if we're looking for an upgrade in pass rushing, we shouldn't go with DE, we should go with someone who can pass rush, and help others pass rush. But, the only problem with Cox, it's looking like the Rams are going to take him at #6.

What about Hogan? What's he supposed to do, be the 5th CB? I don't think they drafted a guy who would've been a 2nd round pick if not for his ACL tear so he could be the 5th CB on the roster.

If that was the case, I would be happy with it. I think he could generate a pass rush from the inside much the same way Fletcher can. But, then again, we need a guy who can start day 1. Would Coples be ready to play inside day 1?

When I think of immediate impact/starter I don't think of converting a guy back to a position he hasn't played in over a year.

He'll get a chance. But, I wouldn't count on him being anything spectacular. If so, then hey, maybe he can play the nickle, and we move both Butler and Munnerlyn to Special Teams. Either way, our Special Teams only gets deeper.

If we were really moving to the 34, it would be Melvin Ingram, not close.

Eh, maybe they drafting the better player overall and going to work with that. It kinda threw people off guard when Mario fitted in the 3-4 as both. Im just saying no way drafting him the 3-4 isn't on Rivera mind
