Rivera And Hurney Meetings With Coples Again

I trust Hurney and Rivera more, They have much more at stake and will do the due diligence. If they pick him, they are sure he is right for us.

I hear ya. I just don't trust any player that has a motivation issue. How motivated is he going to be when he is rich?

I listened to the interview with him, he admits that the coaching changes got in his head. He also said he had something to prove and had a chip on his shoulder. He said he went out to prove he was worth a high first round pick at the senior bowl where reports were he dominated his matchups.

I like guys with something to prove who feel they have been slighted. As for where he will play right away, it will be DE. He might morph into a DT but he is only good there if we want to move him inside on passing downs to get by a slower guard.

Good post! I would also add that I could see certain situations where on 3rd and long we put him inside even as a rookie and have Johnson, Coples, and Hardy all going after the QB along with McClain or another DT.

But for the main part he is going to be DE, at least for now.

Sigh.

Seriously, did you even read his preface? He said that it wasn't a true mock draft. It was how he rated players. Meaning, that was basically his Top 32 players, in order from first to last, not a real mock draft.

Sigh. Must have missed that, sorry. But I would still question his decision to have Claiborne as the third best cornerback prospect in the draft.

How motivated would you be if Ron Rivera, Thomas Davis, Jon Beason, and Charles Johnson were just WAITING to put a foot in your ass? I believe laziness is a maturity thing. It gets better with age, discipline, and good leadership/guidance. I think he has passion for the game and leadership skills, but needs others around him to rally with. Defenses are often like that, they need to have guys to fire them up. We have that in Beason if he can come back 100%.

don't be stupid and don't lean on that. it's getting old. Read James Anderson's remark to Coples being motivated or lazy from yesterday and let it go already

He watches tape and figures out which players will transition the best into the NFL.

Tape said that Gilmore could play inside and outside.

Jenkins is the best "man" corner.

Claiborne was not as good on the slot, and was not as physical as the other two.

These are just from watching tape, nothing else.

The way he created his rankings / "mock draft" was by mixing who he thought were the best players while also taking into account team needs. So even Ruff isn't technically correct by saying it's Cosell's top 32, because it's his top 32 adjusted for team needs - if the draft order was different, his "top 32" would be different.

The way he evaluates players is to go in with no preconceived notions and to just watch game tape of the prospects. This is probably the best way to evaluate players, even tho it inherently has its own pitfalls because not every prospect is playing against the same level of competition. In the end, it's always a crapshoot. You can probably get CLOSE to a safe pick, but honestly, there really is no such thing as a safe pick.

When you play "to not get hurt" I will question you.

When you don't produce on the field at all, I will question you.

When you are labeled as a boom or bust player, I will question you.

Please stop being a Carolina homer.

I don't know if I think that Stephon Gilmore is better than Claiborne, but I do think that, other issues not-withstanding, strictly on the field Janoris Jenkins is the best CB in the Draft. But, sadly, we don't live in magical Christmas land, so we have to look at other things about Jenkins, and that really, really diminishes his stock.

But we are at the point that this Thomas Davis tall just isn't realistic. Not sure Beason at 100% in 2012 is realistic either.

Cam could be a home run pick but he could also be a huge bust. A high risk high reward player isn't what I want at the #1 pick. I would rather trade back to around 15ish. There will be plenty of great players available still at 15 and I would feel better about Cam at 15. I feel like this meeting is more to try and make teams believe we are high on Cam to entice a trade than us being that high on Cam.

Not knocking you directly, but this is the exact mentality of most everyone last year about :cam:
