Rivera And Hurney Meetings With Coples Again

If we want Coples I doubt we drop back unless there are other guys we like just as much. Trading back is a crap shoot at best. All it takes is one team to have him higher than you thought, and your strategy is blown. If he is worth it at 15, he is worth it at 9. Plain and simple. If he is one of 6 or 7 guys you would be happy with between 9 and 15, you know that at least 1 of them will be there so you trade back.

You guys really think Coples, playing on a relatively small rookie contract, and playing on a Defense led by Jon Beason and coached by Ron Rivera is going to not play 100% and give it his all?

I would have no problem taking Coples at 9 if Rivera believes he is their guy.

He is a super-talented, versatile player, who played his senior year not to get hurt, and for a program in disarray. Also, he can play from day 1, at minimun as a third down rusher.

And all of this is coming from a State fan.

If he needs external motivation, I don't want him. It's that simple.

I listened to the interview with him, he admits that the coaching changes got in his head. He also said he had something to prove and had a chip on his shoulder. He said he went out to prove he was worth a high first round pick at the senior bowl where reports were he dominated his matchups.

I like guys with something to prove who feel they have been slighted. As for where he will play right away, it will be DE. He might morph into a DT but he is only good there if we want to move him inside on passing downs to get by a slower guard.

it wasn't exactly an enormous commitment to hop in a car and have lunch in chapel hill 2.5 hrs away. that being said, the timing is the curious thing. i would think that any visit at this point has nothing to do with learning about the player so much as becoming more comfortable with them.
