they're that team every offseason-one piece away from a run, in win now mode, etc. they've certainly been winners in the regular season but the falcons have gotten dicked in the playoffs under mike smith like clockwork. what i don't see mentioned very often is that their high profile free agency acquisitions (ray edwards, dunta robinson) and high picks spent in the trenches (peria jerry, sam baker) have generally not panned out. they just blew a bunch of picks on julio jones which will make it even harder to deal with the issues coming down the line for their front four.

Um once you reach a certain point 'winning seasons' aren't enough. They had the #1 seed in the playoffs, homefield, and got BOUNCED in the first round. They've yet to win a playoff game, with what everyone believes is a really good roster.

That isn't progress.
