because I'm not worried about having a better linebacker core, i want a better defense and we're better off investing our best resource in defensive line to improve the defense overall.

they changed schemes, but if you were a texans fan, given your irrationally high standards when it comes to linebacker and Demeco Ryans' injury, you would've wanted them to go there with their first pick.

Anyone who thinks our problems were more about the defensive line than the linebackers and secondary had to be closing their eyes and covering their ears all year.

As for Houston, there defensive scheme and the work of new defensive coordinator Wade Phillips was the difference last year.

so you basically acknowledge that they were able to improve without drafting insurance for Demeco Ryans in the first round

good to know

When a QB only gets sacked 24 times a season it is because they get the ball out before the pressure gets there. The only solution is keeping it in front of you and limiting YAC. That comes from the back 7 not the front four. Guys like Brees eat you up with dinks and dunks if your secondary and linebackers suck. Look what they did to us last year. Cox's five sacks won't change that as much as better linebacker play and a solid secondary.

cox would provide a lot more than 5 sacks. he'd help give us more consistent interior pressure, which is something we've been lacking since 2006

because they both play more critical positions

we've had top ten defenses with chris draft and na'il diggs playing at linebacker. then again I remember our front four also being better and having 3 good CBs (Marshall could hold his own as a nickel)

And also had a top 10 defense with Tyler Brayton, Hollis Thomas and Everett Brown on the defensive line. Your point??

I didn't acknowledge anything, I wouldn't try and compare what they are doing in a 3-4 in Houston with what we should do here. I fail to see why anyone would???

So even though he didn't have more sacks than 5 in college he would be much better in the pros, but Kuechly didn't sack the quarterback that much so he wouldn't be better in the pros. Great double standard...........................

a 3-4 employs more linebackers than a 4-3, and those linebackers are required to be more dynamic than a 4-3 linebacker, so in that system if they're able to make do with a player returning from a torn achilles without drafting a top linebacker so should we

i'm not talking about sacks, i'm talking about knockdowns, pressures, batting passes at the line, blocking FGs, etc

Actually not true. Because there are more linebackers they typically have more defined roles and they can compensate for each other. The fewer you have the more the loss of one will hurt you. So actually the opposite of what you said is the case.

Again how many quarterbacks hurries was he credited with in 2011??? 3

How many passes broken up??? 0

Pressures are not official stats so who knows what that is...................

You could be right he could be good in special teams as he did block 2 kicks. That is something.......................
