Everette Brown = SAM?

You know, that's the problem with this board - someone posts an idea and right away people jump in and call it "crap".

I've played and coached football for many years and the idea of Brown possibly being converted to a SAM OLB is not "crap". If you think it's a ridiculous idea then you obviously don't know much about football.

The same could be said for you, to expect a guy who never played in coverage throughout his college to career to jump into the NFL and become even DECENT is a bit far fetched.

You see the time it's taken Davis, and he's played at safety in college.

I don't think it's a crap idea, I do believe the responses make more sense though. We need D-Line depth and he helps us. I'm not sure what would make the Panthers think that they could convert him to a LB unless he has shown coverage skills, just off a hunch. I believe he is best suited at the DE position.

another no vote.

you don't take a speed pass rusher like this guy and do anything but make him rush the QB.

diggs and connor have the Sam covered.

Brayton can tell you all about what happens when your try to use a DE as a SLB.

There is one position switch I could see pondering, mind you.

With the depth at corner, I wonder if the staff would move Dante Wesley over to free safety.

Wouldn't be a hard move for him, considering he is awful in straight up coverage. Not a knock on the player, he is a ACE on special teams, but his CB days are numbered.

I think that you would have a viable arguement if we were a 3-4 D but we are a 4-3 D. Ron Meeks D's have historically had undersized DE's that are good at getting to the QB, DT's that are big and strong but not overly athletic and can handle two OL long enough for the LB's to get into position, LB's that are not massive but more built on speed and great tackling, CB's and Safety's that are more smart than freakish athletes.

If you look at that model then Brown fits in with a Meeks' DE perfectly.

Our LB depth is "impressive" because any of our backups, Anderson, Johnson, and Connor can play just about any of the 3 LB positions. They may not be Pro-bowlers but they can all play effectively if needed, and all 3 could possibly start for a lot of teams.

I'm wasn't really arguing for or against the idea, just thinking out-loud and trying to strike up a conversation. I think Brown is a great prospect at DE esepcially under Meeks.

what's even more classic is a person too stupid to detect sarcasm:D

What even more stupid is someone who thinks sarcasm translates well over a message board.

I can only hope this is sarcasm, but I've read some comments on this board in the past that would make it just as easy to believe it wasn't, LOL.
