Does Anyone Here Use A Juicer?

I picked one up from Costco recently, and just used it for the first time. My first recipe was:

Half an apple

Half a grapefruit

5 or 6 strawberries

2 large celery stalks

2 handfuls of spinach

It was intense. Not the best tasting thing in the world, but not the worst.

Anyone here regularly use a juicer? Any tips? Recipes? Pie?

Mine came with a small recipe book. Basically the main idea is to try and get some high nutrition vegetables in and use a sweet fruit to help cover the flavor. The main sweet fruits I use are apple, blueberry, and strawberry. Some of the most common nutritional components are beets, carrots, and spinach. I never used celery and think that flavor would be a little strong and I don't believe it has that high a nutritional content as its very high in water. There are other things you can use, but the flavors might not blend well with everything like the above stuff. For example, citrus fruit dont normall blend well with fruit, just each other. For example, I had a recipe for a citrus surprise or something and it was spinach, Valencia orange, and pink grapefruit. Always take peel off citrus to keep all that acid from peel from ending up in your drink. I love mangos and use them often too, so don't be afraid to make your own recipes.

If your goal is nutrition and not just great tasting juice, start with the nutritious stuff (beets, spinach, carrots) and mix in sweet fruits to make it more palatable.

Final tip, always clean the juicer right away after using, especially the cutting screen, because once it dries, it will take double the time to clean as opposed to just rinsing out. Also, if you garden, the leftover stuff can go in your garden or compost pile.

V8 recipe

3 large tomatoes

3 stalks celery

5 carrots (medium sized)

1 small beet

1/4 head fresh cabbage

1-2 bell pepper (red or green, or both)

2 cups spinach

2-3 kale leaves

1/4 sweet onion

1/2 clove garlic (optional)

I don't use a juicer, but I make a blended veggie shake/smoothie every day for breakfast. Blending is much more nutritious as you still get the fibre instead of eliminating everything except what lingers in the veggie's water. Here's what I make, in case you want to adapt it.

1 cucumber

1 chunk of ginger

1 banana

3 tbs flaxseed

several stalks of kale

several stalks of celery

Yeah mine came with a recipe book. I just went to the store and bought what I know would juice well. Definitely key to mask some of the vegetable flavor with fruit. The celery was probably the strongest flavor, and I know it doesn't have a ton of nutritional value, but it has antioxidants which is worth the taste depending on whether or not you believe in the power of antioxidants. Plus, it has a lot of liquid in it, which helps some things with less liquid, such as spinach, juice more effectively. And I did peel the grapefruit. Citrus is pretty much the only thing that has to be peeled. Bananas would need to be peeled too of course, but I've read that bananas are one of the few things that won't juice.

I still get fiber from solid fruit and vegetables, as well as some fiber supplements.
