Terriblepizza's Mock Draft 3.0

Round 1: Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2IjKOwUrUI

In the pre-draft press conference this week Coach Rivera said he wanted player that could start

immediately and Gilmore is exactly that player. He has the ideal combination of size and speed

along with long arms. He is terrific in run defense and isn’t afraid to make a hit at the line of

scrimmage. He led the Gamecocks in 2010 in tackles. He is great in zone coverage and press

coverage and is athletic enough to hold his own in man to man. He can immediately start on the

outside and allow Munnerlyn to shift back to the inside where he excels.

Round 2: Devon Still, DT, Penn State

Arguably the most “NFL-ready” of the senior defensive tackles in this years draft, Devon Still

could be another player that immediately jumps into the starting rotation on our line. He is great

against the run due to his ability to get off blocks and fill the run lanes. He can do the same when

rushing the passer but his lack of closing speed and explosiveness leads him to have very few

sacks.

Round 4: Jared Crick, DT/DE, Nebraska

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VSEX6MVZq8

Crick is a versatile and athletic lineman who can play all the positions along the defensive line.

He’s got a huge motor and has sacked the quarterback on pure effort alone. He had a monster

junior year playing next to Suh, and may struggle to get off blocks on his own. He can make an

immediate impact rotating in at DT or spelling our DEs.

Round 5: Danny Trevathan, LB, Kentucky

Trevathan is a pure tackling machine, leading the SEC in tackles the past two years. He is always

around the ball because of his good instincts. He’s an average athlete and could struggle in

coverage at the next level. At minimum he’d make a fantastic special teams player and a good

back up for any of the LB positions.

Round 6a: James Carmon, OT, Mississippi State

James-Carmon-200.jpg

A converted defensive tackle, he has all the size and athletic ability to be a good OT in this

league with the proper coaching on technique. He is a monster at 6’7” and has unreal strength. At

worst, he will be a solid back up. He could be an eventual replacement for any of our linemen.

Round 6b: George Bryan, TE, NC State

813542.jpg

An NFL caliber "on the line Y", he isn't a dynamic pass catching option but has the ability to

make plays underneath and at least threaten the seam and can develop into a great run blocker.

Isn't quite dynamic enough to start in the NFL, but could end up being one of the better reserves

at the position on the next level

Round 7: Greg McCoy, CB, TCU

542232.jpg

Not overly good in coverage, he would be a serviceable backup at best. His real value is as a kick

returner and special teams player.

I actually really like this draft. Fill 2 needs, with two very talented players... I would change the 4th round player.... We already ahve a bunch of DT's and a bunch of DT's..... People for depth here are not exactly what we are looking for.... I would find something else.

Not sure why everyone is hating on Gilmore. Fact is he is a top 15 talent and fills the biggest need we have on the team. I would not really consider this a reach. If you get Still in the 2nd you probably have 2 defensive starters come September. This is not a bad draft at all. I don't think Crick is there in the 4th so I would take Terrel Manning or a return guy then take a punter in the 7th instead of the cbbut this is a pretty good draft weekend if they come out with this kind of talent

Definitely could see it happening like this. Even if Still's not there at 40, which he probably will be, we could get Kendall Reyes.

The only thing I don't like no Punter (I think we're getting either Butler or Anger), and Crick won't be there in the 4th. If you changed that to Joe Adams, Terrell Manning, or Keenan Robinson, it would be very close to what I see happening.

    • I like that a lot; Ware from Troy and also Khalil Mack who played at University of Buffalo
    • I remember the Huddle consensus over the course of last season and the previous one. Lots of Bryce is a bust, we should've drafted a 4th slot WR, should've kept Wilks, should've kept an armless Cam, etc etc. So... yea... already thought about that. I wouldn't trust the Huddle to detail my car, let alone run a multi-billion dollar professional sports team. 😛
    • bold prediction, I think Mike Green will be the best pass rusher in this class, and thats even with abdul carter.  He reminds me of demarcus ware, not just in size and prowess, but even coming from a Sunbelt school (Ware from Troy, Green from Marshall).  I think he is passionate about the sport where I think Carter as the physical freak might not have the heart.  Thats the guy Im sold on and am gonna hammer the table for, I know he's not projected 8, but he is projected like 12-13, so if a slide back can happen and we still get the guy I want, I'm 100% on board. All that said, it takes 2 to tango, I think the Cowboys are the tango-er.  IMO theres a VERY good shot that Jeanty is available at 8.  Why does that matter?  Not only do the cowboys NEED a runningback (dak sucks without a run game), but MORE importantly, gee where did Jeanty play in high school.....Frisco TX, literally Dallas Metro.  Soo, RB is a position of need and the best RB and most blue chip draft selection that  could improve the offense immensly played IN dallas metro AND will be in range for them to move up and pick?  Do ya think Jerry Jones is gonna just say no to the Jersey Sales?  Jerry might have sexually assaulted a woman and attempted to prevent black people from going to school, but he's no idiot (he is).  IMO, we get a good enough package, prlly their first and third,  maybe a conditional later and we move to 12.  We get Green, they get Jeanty, everbuddy happy.
