Gilmore Overlooked By Board

Some of you continue to say "he is a reach", my point was that he would not be a reach. If you want to say he is a reach, you should say why. This guy doesn't have perfect technique, but he continues to improve. Every season he has played, he continues to get more tackles. This guy very well could be BPA at #9. Every corner has shitty tape on himself.... I think this guy has the most potential, and it seems like everyone just likes to say "he is a combine guy", when in fact not many analysts or scouts have come out and said that this was true. Many analysts and scouts are even coming out and saying that he is actually good on tape and the combine.... I think it is pretty ignorant to say that he is only good at the combine, that simply is not true.

Bottom line was Gilmore was not a shut down corner in college. His play on the field was terribly inconsistent. Got beat and gave up big plays a lot.

Hell to the fuggin no you dont take this guy in the top 10.

Im still not convinced Gilmore is better than Hosley and Hayward.

He damn sure aint better than Jenkins.

Does anyone in here evaluate film and know what to look for when a CB is playing Zone or Man?

If you can tell the difference, then ask yourself if you can tell which play is being ran and who's got what assignment...

If you can't do both of those consistently, don't say anything about Gilmore getting burned or playing bad.

Heck most on here thought that Kirkpatrick was playing Zone all the time in college when he even admitted in an interview that Bama ran mostly Man and the zone looks they played were bump and run man coverage that floated into zone coverage in some places depending on what routes where ran.

Stats are irrelevant for defenders. I bet if you looked hard enough Alabama's D is on the field a lot less than USCs. Gilmore appears to have all the measurables and ok tape to back it up. He does have holes in his game so maybe he's not worth a 9th pick. I'm leery of any player that makes a huge jump in the media rankings because generally actual scouts don't change their grades nearly as much as a pundit who's trying to draw interest to his stories.

I was fine with taking him, but after watching some of his games on YouTube he looks awful. He gets burned on at least half the passes that get thrown his way and is below average as a tackler. It's like watching Sherrod Martin at corner.

He's got great size/speed, but that's not enough. I'd rather take Coples than this guy and I'm by no means on the Coples bandwagon. I really hope Cox is on the board because he's head and shoulders above both Coples AND Gilmore, IMO.

Guys that might be there and be worth the 9th pick

Cox

Keuchly

Gilmore

Floyd

Caplan said last night on Sirius that this was the deepest WR draft in history. Also said that there was not a "megatron" in this draft. Cross off Floyd

Said Kuechly was best LB in draft probably fit better in 43 at MLB but could play Sam or Will. Not a slam dunk need. Cross off Floyd.

Gushed about Cox and said he might not get past 6. All scouts he had spoken to said he was a great prospect and chould play all DLine positions except for nose. Far and away the best DL in draft.

Definite consideration.

Gilmore was another guy who eh said could go top ten just because of his skills and the fact that he had a big upside. He has been compared to D Woodson because of toughness, ability to rush QB and could play left, right, slot CB positions. Definite consideration

Said that Cox, Gilmore and would most likely be the targets of top ten trades

Jenkins has the best pure coverage skills out of all the CBs. But for the off-field issues, he would be top 10. Better than Claiborne, Kirkpatrick and Gilmore. Since Jenkins will be around later, I wouldn't pick any of his less skilled on-field rivals in the first. But that's just me.

No one can evaluate film because none of us have game film. Youtube mixes aren't the best ways to evaluate players but they do show you tidbits on players.

I watch CFB and that's how I evaluate players, by actually watching the games. I can tell you Gilmore is not worthy of a top 10 pick. Sometimes it's hard to spotlight a CB on TV because the camera follows the ball and they are off screen many times. But you can tell when CBs are getting picked on, when they are having a rough time, when they are missing tackles, and so on....

Don't tell me you have to evaluate game film to know Captain is a poor CB.

Heck most on here thought that Kirkpatrick was playing Zone all the time in college when he even admitted in an interview that Bama ran mostly Man and the zone looks they played were bump and run man coverage that floated into zone coverage in some places depending on what routes where ran.

Maybe I am only speaking for myself, but I think most acknowledged that he would seem to be better suited for zone not that they mostly ran zone necessarily.

I'm with you, that makes a lot of sense. Why draft Gilmore at 9 when you can get a better CB possibly at 40?

    • The qb position has been eliminated due to the low probability of the success of selecting one early.  This part got me hollering the most "You can't get so hyperfocused on one position(even the most important position in football like QB) that you just draft a QB and any QB. This leads to wasted draft picks and years of torment as you are stuck in a development cycle for nothing." " "Also, if we don't get our franchise QB this draft....oh well. We got the next dozen or so drafts to keep taking cracks at it."
    • Then be prepared to draft a QB the next year. When the best one would surely not play here. Then what?   This fanbase keeps preaching patience, while other bottom feeders are finding their QB's. Panthers fans are becoming blind. The losing has caught up to the fanbase. We preaching patience when we have been a bad franchise ever since Tepper took over.   But because you don't like Sanders or Ward we should pass on a QB. Then when they become franchise changers you feel bad.   Everyone knows this franchise will continue to suck until they get a franchise QB. Chasing LBs and DEs isn't helping us. We can address the defense after we get the QB.   Cmon Hepcat don't let the blind lead you they blind for a reason!
    • Imagine posting on a forum to mock people for posting on a forum. Whether you realize it or not you just played yourself. LOL  Guess what? We've heard people like you lecture people with opinions about how *insert former Panthers front office or coach moron* knows best and we're all just idiots. This forum exists to discuss Panthers football and that includes *GASP* sharing opinions that may be contrary to what the Panthers end up doing.  If you just want a circle jerk of an echo chamber reassuring you that everything the Panthers do is brilliant despite the abysmal record on the field, I think they made a Discord group for that.
