If Janoris Jenkins Didn't Have The Character Concerns

All jokes aside...Jenkins seems to be extremely talented but Alfonzo Dennard just showed why Jenkins will drop to the 3rd or possibly 4th round (depending on team need). Dennard didn't seem to have any off-field history but his on-field history of one fight was a question mark. Then last night his anger got the better of him and now he could be facing jail time. THAT is why GMs steer clear of guys with character concerns. Imagine if that happened the week after the draft and Dennard had just gone in the 2nd round.

You can coach a guy up but you can't fix a guy's character. So IMO that's why taking a guy who is slightly less talented (but with great character) is better than risking a high pick on a guy who you don't know if he's going home or going to jail when he goes out.

Some guy by the name of Cam Newton left Florida. "Florida!!!!!!!!" Then he proceeded to go to a small junior college, followed by a National Championship and a Heisman Trophy session at Auburn. Shame he never worked out in the NFL... oh, wait.

:cam:

Wow just wow dont i feel a little silly now.... Cam went to Florida? I had no idea they shared somewhat similar circumstances.... Color me stupid.... Yep color ME***** stupid

Onto the weed charges, the ones everyone makes a huge deal about without hearing the whole story. Jayson Braddock reported yesterday that his first arrest was for less than a gram of marijuana and it held a $351 dollar fine.

His second marijuana-related arrest came from the same police officer, who smelled weed in a car that Jenkins was a passenger in. The driver of the car allowed a search and they found a “roach” in the ash tray. Jenkins was not the driver and was the only person arrested from the car. That fine was for $416.

Two incidents of late seem to have sparked even more controversy with Jenkins, first that he fired his agent weeks before the draft. This is far more common than you think. Agent Greg Linton said on twitter that multiple players have switched agents in the past few months. It’s just something that usually goes unreported.

Jenkins was represented by CAA, a huge agency that wasn’t dedicating enough time to him. Ian Rapoport recently wrote about his switch at length. Jenkins was not fired as was misreported, he chose to switch agencies to get more personal attention.

The next falsehood being reported is that Jenkins told teams that he kept smoking while at North Alabama. Braddock reported that Jenkins has been drug tested every two weeks since leaving Florida and hasn’t failed a single one.

The lesson? Don’t believe everything you hear around draft season. Teams are constantly trying to throw out false information to get other teams scared. Jenkins is a player with a lot to question in his background, and throwing out more questionable information will only lower him on teams’ boards.

"Of course he got drug tested when he was there and he passed those tests," defensive coordinator Tony Pecoraro told Scout. "For him to get into school, our athletic director put in a bunch of stipulations and he had to do community service hours, do a mentoring program, take random drug tests. If anything had come back positive from those, he wouldn't have been out there. It was a zero tolerance policy. He did everything we asked him to do."

No, absolutely not. When has a very talented player who had character concerns ever worked out for us?????? It would be awful to take him in the second. I mean he left Florida!!!!!!!! Florida!!!!!! Then went and played at a small school. Yeah right a guy like that will never amount to anything in the NFL!!!!!!!!!!!

Muschamp, not Urban, kicked him off the team. So your point about him leaving Florida means nothing.

As far as the original question, I would say yes he'd be the top CB. But it's a toss up because Claibrone has better size.

this guy wants to play football. He will not make it out of the first round, but if he does, he needs to be picked at 40. he might of been with the wrong crowd, but Ron Rivera will make it clear, No BS or you sit the bench or get cut. Period.

Smoking weed and then quitting after you get caught and punished isn't a character concern. Since when aren't people allowed to make mistakes? Cam Newton stole a laptop and he isn't exactly forever-remembered as a brainless thug. We aren't voting for congressmen, we're looking at kids that can play with a football. These concerns are being blown out of proportion by teams who pick in the late first, early second. Don't fall for it.
