Fishing Kayaks....

For what some of those things cost, you could get an old Jon boat and fix it up a bit.

the only problem with that is the gas motor, registration and trailer.

can put a kayak on top of a car and go throw it in anywhere. same with a canoe.

plus the exercise of paddling around

besides i think Zod already has a boat, he just wants something more manageable for one person

As someone mentioned...how much you wanting to spend. How much weight you willing to deal with.

I like the Native Manta Ray 14s are great boats and I really like the seat material. Wilderness Systems Tarpon 120/140s are also nice. My bil has one and I've used it. If you ever think you'll take it into a sound, ocean, or really large lake, I wouldn't go any less than 12'. You'll just wear yourself out on keeping it tracking straight. I took a 9' to Bear Island and it was a task. But then if you like river running...you'll enjoy the turning of a shorter yak. I'm in the market for one, but I started another project in the house....so it's on hold, but I will have one by the time coastal fall fishing hits.

Heads up...there's a fishing tournament being held at Randleman reservoir next weekend hosted by nckfa.com guys and involving Get Outdoors. You could always jump into the tournament ($60 entry) and you could even win a kayak if you win, but you can call to see if they have loaners you could try out.

I used to work as an assembler for Wilderness Systems(10 years ago) while in community college, when they were still in Trinity, NC. I've built more Tarpons, Rides and Pamlicos than I want to recall as well as Sealutions, North Stars, Pungos, Manteos, etc. I don't know if the Ride is still offered, but it is the most stable on the water because of its pontoon like bottom, and you can easily stand up on it.

The place in Greensboro is a good place to check out. When I was assembling I often went over there because we got discounts. I'm sure they'd be helpful in determining what current model you should go with.

For all around...ocean/lake/river...would you suggest the Tarpon or the Manta Ray. I'm about comfort and speed. Stability isn't that much of an issue as I doubt I'll stand on it.
