Fishing Kayaks....

i bought some of those shitty shakespeare 20$ combos they have at walmart over the course of the past 5 years, and all 5 of them have outlasted anything else i've bought

i'm not saying they're good reels or anything, they work in a pinch on a budget and now i have enough "big" cat rods to loan friends when they go fishing with me, since nobody gears for big fish (10lbs and up)

i really really really need to learn to use a baitcaster, i've never really spent enough time with an open face. everytime i get good with one it breaks and i don't fug with them for another 2 years and birdnest every other cast

anyway

Not knocking what people can afford. However I know that nothing holds up like a shimano.

oh, i appreciate the advice. i'm really shocked that all 5 have lasted this long. i know they won't go longer than 10 with the way i fish, but i do keep them oiled, fresh lined, stored, etc.

definitely not a lifetime rod. and it was more about quantity than quality at the time. buying 2 or 3 shimanos at once was not an option for someone just getting back into it, regardless of what i could afford.

didn't even realize how easy it is to catch a 10lb+ catfish. some people fish their whole lives and never do it.

Sorry man, they don't get old.

My Dad was always told me to buy quality guns and fishing gear, and you can use them for life.

You can go buy a $40 set up from Wal Mart, and buy it again in 2 years, over and over. Or get a Stradic/Croix (or any other good stuff) and never buy it again.

I fish 3 or 4 rods at a time, and they are all that combo.

no worries man, that's a good problem to have... i want to buy something decent but honestly a stradic/st croix is out of both my budgetary range and my skill set. something to work toward for sure.

I just bought 2 of those off of Craigslist Zod for $220 (both), no joke. They are not as nice as the one you pictured, but for $110 each, I'm not gonna complain.

Fun stuff if you ask me. Just don't make the mistake I did and not be able to fit them into your SUV and be forced to ride down the road with them hanging out of the tailgate!

I roll with an Old Town Dirigo 120 Angler, and I personally love it. Paid like $700 for it. I usually just fish the Finger Lakes in NY, so the waves aren't massive. The main things you have to consider are if you want sit-in VS sit on top, and the size of the boat you want. The shorter kayaks tend to maneuver better, but the longer ones follow a straighter line

Anyone know anything about them. I really like the idea of it. I love fishing, love kayaking, seems like a no brainer.

I am looking at this one...

Hey Zod If you have any questions about Kayak fishing I'm your man, been doing it for years could also give you some pointers on things.

As far as the Kayak goes I would straight up not get that kayak, few reasons no room for gear, form looks like more of a 2 man surf kayak, if you want a 2 man kayak http://www.amazon.com/Ocean-Kayak-Malibu-Tandem-Regular/dp/B002C834HY/ref=sr_1_19?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1334959809&sr=1-19

if money is not an issue you can't beat Hobie Kayaks but they are also very expensive

but for some basic questions What, When and Where? basically What are you fishing to do and how do you intend on doing it, when time of year and where like inland water, lake, river ect

longer ones are also faster, so you can cover more ground but with that said are a lot heavier, I would usually always suggest sit on tops because they don't sink, but if you are fishing in cold flat water you may want a sit in because it will keep you warmer.
