Jabar Gaffney

Found this interesting, acording to http://blogs.fredericksburg.com/redskinsjournal/ Jabar Gaffney has been given permission to seek a trade and to stay home and not attend voluntary practices. He was also informed the team would be seeking a trade for him. Pretty productive last season with 68 catches for 947 yards and 5 Tds.Many of you guys know a lot more about football than me,so I'm wondering if anybody thinks this guy could come in and give that kind of production here and bolster our receiving corps. Then the Panthers could concentrate solely on Defense in the draft.

I was actually thinking trading a 6th or 7th for Gaffney would be a good idea. Sure he's not young and and was never a superstar, but he's always been solid, a f-ton better than Naanee. He'd not be a long term solution or anything, but like the OP said it'd allow us to have full confidence in our WR corps for another year, waiting til next year or the next to draft a WR, and concentrate on other bigger priorities this year.

Smith, LaFell, Gettis - Guarantees to make squad

Edwards, Manno, Pilares, that other WR we got from Chargers - I can see these guys battling it out for the last WR spot

Draft - We will get our slot WR(Joe Adams)

So in short :) , I say no to Gaffney.

    • Yeah but jumping up in the draft to get a project #2/3 WR is just plain not smart. I am down on XL because the thought was that he could be a potential #1 WR and he has been anything but that so far. Also, the idea of him as a slot is even more upsetting because you pass on several more productive slot guys(McConkey being the most obvious) that were TREMENDOUSLY more NFL ready. I was not a fan of the XL move at the time and I am not a fan of the decision in short term hindsight either. He is just simply going to have to be a guy that proves it on the field to me. McMillian was my #1 WR in this draft and I was a pro-McMillian guy. However, he isn't gonna get treated with baby gloves either. We are in the era of rookie WR's putting up 1k+ yd seasons with regularity. He's going to(barring injury) have to be one of the top 2 or 3 WR's in this class in terms of production. And that's being very generous to him. He really needs to be THE guy from this class. It isn't like he is gonna have a lot of guys taking catches away from him.
    • Thought this was an interesting moment of candor. See the 2:00 min mark. TD said he made the decision that he wanted T-Mac as our 1st round pick back in January. Dan chimed in and said he made the decision early as well (indicating the same time frame).
