I like Hardy, but he's had more than one chance. He regressed last season. While I expect him to improve this coming season, we need more talent at the position. If Hardy is worth keeping, he'll step up and earn it. As it should be done.

How did he regress? He didn't play much his rookie season. This is the only season he had a chance to start their is no reference point to say he regressed.

Correct. Our best defensive line incorporated Al Wallace along with Peppers and Ruckers on passing downs, just like the Giants use Tuck, Umenyiora, and Pierre-Paul. 3 good pass rushing DEs is important for rotational value.

Problem is that while Johnson make be a good imitation for Ruckers, Hardy is no Peppers. But who is being compared as the next Peppers?? Yeah that would be Coples. Once we get that taken care of then maybe next year we find our Pierre Paul. Or we pick up Brockers who may be able to do both. But getting a DT before we take care of DE especially when we already did last year would be putting the cart before the horse. There is no second rounder who is similar to coples but there are plenty of Cox look alikes. So I think we agree.

I've got higher expectations for our 2nd year DTs honestly. NO matter who we draft, Fua and McClain are going to need to step up big.

Definitely. Hopefully they have both gained some "good" weight, worked on their stamina, and are getting the fundamentals of the position at the NFL level down, or we are in trouble regardless of the rookies we bring in.

he was a starter this last season. Right?

Did he play well enough to be considered a solid starter?

As much as I wanted him to play well enough to be the other starting end, I can admit he failed to play well enough.

I hope the 3rd year is his breakout year, but I'm not holding my breath.

Neither should the panthers, when they must increase their pass rush.

You also act as if having Johnson, Hardy, and Coples would be a bad thing.

Don't start that poo please.

Coples went to the same school and played the same position but he is no Peppers.

Even UNC fans will tell you he is no Peppper. Don't play yourself like that.

And what did that tell us if he did play in 15 games but started in none?? That the reason he dropped to the sixth round was because he was pretty raw and needed lots of work. It wasn't like we still had Peppers,we had a regressiing Brayton and Brown who didn't even keep in 2011. So you are right he probably wasn't good enough in 2010 to have regressed. Problem was he didn't really improve either very much. Hopefully competition brings out the best this year.

It would be if all he cares about is drafting Cox.

He was a stuck behind E Brown, Tyler, and CJ in 2010 don't you remember that. He was the 2nd Situational pass rusher. He didn't get any starts. 2011 was his 1st real year as a starter and he had No offseason or TC. Cut him some slack poo we gave CJ 3 years.

We gave CJ 3 years to develop and he was a 3rd round pick.
