Rumor: Eagles Interested In Trading Up For Fletcher Cox

I'm kind of leery of wanting a DT the Eagles are interested in. They usually get the short end of the stick on those things.

This is true...Eagles first round DT picks (or first round picks in general) have not been home runs. I woudl be leery also. Eagles are always involved in trade rumors for picks and players because they have some sort of coaching connection to almost every team. Only thing I can guarantee is that the Eagles and Patriots will trade draft picks at some point this year. They have every year since 2000 and that will continue as long as Reid and Belichick are the HCs.

We're like in the shittiest possible position in this draft. Every player we need will likely be gone by the time we pick so we're either going to have to trade down or stay where we're at and take a player who really isn't worth it.

I wouldn't say that. We are in range for any of the Dt. Keuchly, Coples, The rest of the 1st round wr, Cb, and Olinemen. We could trade down to the Jets, Eagles, and Cowboys get extra picks and still get 1 of our target players.

Hypothetically, what do we do if the Eagles trade up to 7 and take Cox?

Honestly, trading back is not a very realistic possibility. Would we go with Stephon Gilmore at that point, and hope to get one of the good 2nd round pass rushers? Do we take Floyd? Brockers?

I want Floyd in that scenario and then go BPA b/w DE and CB in the 2nd

For those suggesting that we trade back with the Eagles, consider the following:

1) Any team interested in trading up to our spot is doing so solely to get in front of Buffalo at 10. Otherwise, why would the Panthers be the ideal trade partner?

2) The Bills have very strong defensive line right now. Mario Williams added. Dareus drafted last year. Pro Bowler in Kyle Williams. They have many other needs. While nothing is out of the realm of possibility, I haven't seen Cox mocked to Buffalo by anyone.

3) If the Panthers wants Fletcher Cox and think he is a good value and BPA at #9, they aren't trading with a team that is likely to select that player.

Ergo, if Philly was really targeting Cox and they thought the Panthers wanted him, they would have to trade with Jax (as suggested by many) to get above the Panthers. Teams interested in Reiff and Floyd, two likely targets of the Bills, are more likely to be trade partners with the Panthers. Arizona seems like a decent partner if they fell in love with one of them and didn't expect them to fall to 13.

They have needs all along the O-line and for a #2 receiver. But they don't have a 2nd round pick this year and are probably more likely to stay put and just take whoever's left since they have so many holes along the O-line.

The only guys I think that are worth taking at our spot is Kuechly or Cox. As a matter of fact If we can't get Cox at 9 then I'd just prefer to trade down where we could get someone like Dre Kirkpatrick or Michael Brockers.

But we are talking if we trade down to the Eagles who will still be in range. Kirk, Brock,Gilmore, maybe even Coples.

panthers fans this year: "there's NO value where we're picking! I wish we could trade down"

2011: "there's NO value where we're picking! Trading down is a must!"

2008: "there's NO value where we're picking! We should trade down"

....

lol I was thinking about that too.

I like what Lombardi said that Walsh used to say about this matter. It's a great point of view.

I agree 100% but if you look back at other drafts its the same way.You have have that wave of 5 or 6 guys that everyone wants and then the talent all seems to blend together

Anyway you can to get Cox out of the mix.

But seriously I would agree with you if we were a 3-4 base team. In a 4-3 we wouldn't be using Ingram to his best potential. JMO

For all those folks whining about the Giants and how we need to emulate them, here is your chance. Ingram would be just like Umenyiora or Strahan.

Actually he would be fine in our 4-3. At 6'1" and 264 he is big enough to put a hand down and rush the passer. He reminds of Dwight Freeney without the spin move.

Trading back will not happen as much any more bc of the rookie cap.

I think it'll actually be the opposite. Before the rookie wage scale, no one wanted to trade up for a high pick because of the contract they'd have to sign that guy to. It was just too much riak in most cases to give up the trade value plus sign a rookie to a big money deal. Now that one of those risk variables is greatly reduced, I think we'll see more trades in the top 10.
