Michael Lombardi is always insightful, and these points all made sense to me.

most interesting and relevent I thought was this:

4) Watch out for players from downtrodden programs -- particularly programs that have just fired a coach -- being unfairly downgraded.

In Walsh's mind, players from a program that has just fired its coach pay a price in draft evaluation. Coaches rarely admit the real reason for their termination -- bad coaching -- instead placing the blame on bad players. These side effects of a losing culture can taint a scout's visit to a particular school. Walsh insisted that all the college prospects in this situation had to be examined closely.

could Coples be getting hit by this phenomenon right now?

If we followed these rules we would've never drafted Cam, and if we did draft him we wouldn't have brought him along the way we did.

Interesting, I still am not sold on Coples being hit by this, but it is still something worth considering.

idk good point. . . "kids" vs "adults" maybe?. . .lower expectations of the coach due to it being a lot to handle and he's dealing with several players?

You'd think it'd be the opposite though. Like bad kids are assumed to have bad parents, but it's taboo to think bad players could have had poo coaches.

I guess what we're overlooking here is the source of the motivation which is the all mighty dollar. Supply and demand should dictate that there is a limited number of "good" coaches around. That should mean that they get more slack.

Also, where a player has a short lifespan for a school's program, the coach also will be around longer . . mm kind of feel like Im reaching on that 1.

If by limited you mean rookies playing in a new system with no offseason, then yeah their limited. I'm willing to give them at another year before I call them limited.

fortunately for him he had the skills to overcome all of those things and perform admirably
