Round 5, pick 143

Bruce+Irvin.JPG

There are some players that could find themselves falling down a hole in this draft and after an arrest that could best be described as "bad timing", Bruce Irvin, OLB may find himself falling in the draft. Now if you think this is unrealistic you could very well be right come draft day. Irvin is an extremely raw prospect who is one of those Aaron Maybin type prospects, and he won't be able to contribute as a starter immediately, but teams could be willing to pay a premium for pass rushers this year. Irvin has an innate ability to pursue the ball carrier behind the LOS and with 22.5 sacks and 29 TFLs in the past two years, he really knows how to pin his ears back and hit his targets. He would be an absolute steal in the 5th but it would take teams being turned off by his arrest and a disinterest in investing time to develop him to make it happen. It's not likely, but nowhere near out of the realm of possibility.

Round 6, Pick 180

Marquis-Maze.jpg

It's no secret that Armanti Edwards was terrible at punt returns last year. He's not very elusive, his speed isn't great, and to be honest I still don't know what Hurney saw in him when he traded up to get him. Here I'm going with the best return man available, and from what I've gathered based on researching player projection, Marquis Maze, WR/RS, Alabama will be the top guy available at that position. Obviously if a Joe Adams fell that's who you go with but some team will fall in love with him enough to spend a 2nd rounder on him. Don't think T.Y. Hilton will be there either.

I agree on the Chapman points, I like him and would definitely like him in the 4th.

Re: Ivan, most mocks I've seen has Chapman around the 4th, so it's not unrealistic. The Irvin pick in the 5th is a bit of a stretch though...

usually after every draft we end up with a guy who inexplicably (or not) falls. last year it didn't really happen but we've gotten Charles Johnson, Greg Hardy, Duke Robinson, etc rounds later than they were projected. Irvin is a good prospect who is likely to be off the board long before the 5th round but he's certainly not immune to a fall. Let me have one at least lol

Chapman and Irvin are going to magically be there at 4-5 eh? I don't believe that.

There's a chance Chapman opens the regular season on the PUP list given he's still recovering from surgery to repair a torn ACL in January. He couldn't participate in the combine, and even his pro day except for bench.

Chapman was back in Indy for a re-check on his medical. He is way ahead of schedule and is expected to be full-go by training camps. No PUP. His draft stock is on the rise and it may take a 2nd to get him. NFL GMs won't be as fickle as draftniks. Most teams do not draft for this season, they draft for the future. Now that Chapman is expected to be ready, he should go higher. I would be pretty shocked if he fell to the 3rd.

Round 6, Pick 207

andrewdatko.jpg

Maybe I should be looking for more STers at this point in the draft, iunno. We signed a good amount of benchwarmers to play STs from free agency, and well, lookie who just fell into our lap, why it's Andrew Datko, OT, Florida State. This is a guy with second round talent who has been projected as a late-rounder due to shoulder injuries. If he is through with them then you've got a viable talent to help contribute at RT with our other injury prone RT. Based on talent Andrew's probably the BPA and most other positions I've either already addressed or am not impressed with. The TE class is terrible and nobody worth a poo is likely to be there at 207 and after Barron there is literally no safety depth in this draft (can we get another one of those blockbuster 07 safety classes? i feel like Eric Weddle was a better prospect than Barron, and he was like the 6th ranked safety then)

Round 7, pick 216

Adrian-Hamilton-150x150.jpg

Adrian Hamilton, LB was extremely productive at Prairie View A&M, even if it was just Prairie View A&M. 22.5 sacks last year and 24 TFLs. He has good size for linebacker and while I think he'll only immediately impact special teams, he could be a solid pass rushing option either situational or every-down a few years from now. That's all I got lol.

Edit: also here's a pretty thorough analysis on Hamilton since not a lot of people know who he is

**Choice UDFA Aquisition**

3425419.jpeg

Shawn Powell, P. I don't feel like doing a writeup so here's some copypasta from nfldraftscout

Draft Scout Snapshot: 2010: Averaged 44.3 per attempt...punted a career-high 50 times for a career-high 2,214 yards…pinned opponents inside the 20 16 times and forced six fair catches…became a proficient rugby-style punter, improving his directional accuracy while limiting returning opportunities…was at his best in that department against Florida, forcing the Gators to start drives at the 4, 7 and 5-yard lines, earning ACC Specialist of the Week honors for his performance against the Gators…booted 18 punts over 50 yards…enjoyed his statistically best game of the season against South Carolina in the Chick-fil-A Bowl when he averaged 51.0 gross yards on three punts, impressive 50.0 net average. 2009: Boasted a 41.6 yard average, which included a career-long 64-yarder, which led all ACC punters…allowed only 136 return yards with 13 punts downed inside 20, five touchbacks, and six fair caught…also handled all placement holds. 2008: Started seven games as punter while incumbent Graham Gano recovered from knee surgery….averaged an impressive 41.1 yards on 18 attempts before Gano returned to the lineup…four punts landed inside the 20 against one touchback…forced two touchbacks…registered FSU season-long punt of 56 yards against Wake Forest…handled all placement holds as a true freshman.

...

12/29/11 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: P Shawn Powell would have been the nation's leading punter with a 47.0 yard average, but he does not have enough attempts. Still, he has enabled FSU to lead the nation in net punting. Powell has dropped 43-percent of his kicks inside the opponents' 20. He changed the game against Florida with booming punts the led to FSU's defense being in great field position to thwart the Gators offense. - The Sports Xchange

I told you I wouldn't forget about punter
