Bobcats Rebrand Update Thread (Real Charlotte Fans-Censorship Free Edition)

I think this is one of the main issues to detractors. Yes, the Shinn and Hornet divorce was ugly, but if the name comes back, Shinn doesn't come with it.

The lack of support for the Hornets had nothing to do with the players on the floor (because they were winning) and everything to do with wanting George Shinn out.

Charlotte must've hated Shinn for representing upward mobility and diversity and therefore erase him from our history books, as Charlotte fans and residents of North Carolina are antebellum-loving, sweet tea drinking, having-sex-with-your-cousin, old-fashioned, anti-progressive, hate mongers. /Bobscats Mod

comparing the amounf of money nascar teams have to NBA teams is absurd.

Most NBA teams operate in a deficit while NASCAR teams are very, very wealthy.

Looking forward to the May races this year, too! Nascar takes care of it's fans.

The mega NASCAR teams like Hendricks, Gibbs, etc are profitable. The single or two driver teams are not extremely profitable.

As a hockey fan, I was exstatic last year when Winnipeg got their Jets back. (and they're not even my team) The name Hornets belongs in Charlotte and though it does sound generic (like bobcats) it has historical significance to this area and should've stayed here when the organization left. I for one believe most names should stay with their perspective cities, though this hasn't been the case throughout time (i.e. Lakers, Dodgers, Giants)

When my beloved Hornets left Charlotte I was devistated, but when I heared an expansion francise was headed to Charlotte I was skeptical as to how the city of Charlotte and States of NC/SC would react to it. I for one was excited. This organization however has been poorly executed from the start. Maybe a rebrand would get some fans back into the NBA. I will continue to support the organization regardless of what happens. Granted a lot of chips have to fall in the right places for this to happen, I just want whats best for the organization. Players don't want to play where there are no fans and fans don't want to go watch mediocre players.

Take it easy on the newb...

yeah we really didn't mind the rape, drug abuse, or shipping our stars out for lesser players or demanding a new arena or he was going to move the team

i wish i were young and dumb and didn't really remember the nastiness that was the hornets departure

In Diddys world the Bobcats name is worse than rape trials.

In Diddys world its Bob Johnson, the Bobcats, and diehard Bobs fans fault the Hornets left town so he blames us instead of the Hornets and their fairweather fans. We should pay for it! LOL

Its like kids who's dad walked out on em, so they grow up blaming their mom and resenting her for it. Not appreciating the fact moms took care of your spoiled disloyal ass while dad went out and started a new fam. "Mom you should be more like Dad!

When this fails do dudes really think they will be acknowledged as Bobs fans again? Just 2 years ago "im excited about mj, the playoffs, our future!", now its "the only thing that can save us is being called the hornets, the bobcats never did nothin!". Dudes allegiance always was with the Hornets. They couldnt wait to bail.

eh, to me its the same thing that plagued the panthers and hornets until they had some playoff success. for the panthers it was a superbowl, for the hornets, it was multiple first round exits with a couple of 2nd round appearances

until the panthers made the superbowl, and until alonzo mourning hit that fade away 2 pointer to put the celtics out of the playoffs everyone was too cool to be a fan

charlotte fans think they deserve something, a superbowl, a playoff caliber nba team, but the reality is its a shitty fanbase that doesn't even deserve to have an nfl or nba team

So let me get this straight, Porn:

From 1988-1992, while selling out the league's largest basketball-only arena (technically, wasn't the AlamoDome 'bigger'? I digress...) 100% of the time, Charlotteans were "too cool" to be Hornets fans?

When the most relevant topic of discussion about a professional sports team is the name and uniforms.. and arguing amongst each other about who is more of a real fan of said team.. Clearly something isn't working.

The racial rhetoric in this thread is more embarrassing than the above mentioned to me though..

I agree holding a grudge over a team name because of the race and heritage of the person who created is racist, its petty, its embarassing, and it reflects poorly on those folks and the city of Charlotte as a whole. It just shows the lengths people will go when they hate people they dont understand.
