Bobcats Rebrand Update Thread (Real Charlotte Fans-Censorship Free Edition)

Yeah Husker, how dare I suggest that the results of a poll linked to a news outlet that is known for romanticizing the Hornets be biased?

I don't think Husker was arguing over the likelihood of a bias being shown by the Observer (although, at 84% to 3% and over 10,000 votes cast, it doesn't sound like the paper is the only entity in town who prefers the Hornets brand; but I digress). He was simply stating that the 2 situations couldn't be any less similar.

Apples and Volkswagens.

Well considering one is an open-to-the-public vote on something fans and non-fans alike actually want (getting rid of a brand-name generally panned in this city) and the other is for biased fans voting on the fairness of THE WORST THING TO EVER HAPPEN TO THEIR FRANCHISE (the NFL's version of the death penalty), I think your comparison would require some daring to take seriously.

If you believe most of the "fans" that are voting for the name change, it's that not being the Hornets in the first place is the worst thing to ever happen to the current franchise (something that the Observer has supported), so yeah, the comparison is valid.

The reintroduction of the NBA back into the market has been bungled so badly that the rebrand may be this teams only hope to be viable in the future.

The opportunity to reclaim the "Hornet" nickname is a rare occurrence and should be taken very seriously especially since the current product is being rejected by the community at large.

Whatever the reason for the apathy history would indicate that NBA basketball can draw a crowd and corporate support in Charlotte. Change is very necessary or there will be no team to argue about. No big free agents are coming through the door. We have a 75% chance of not getting Anthony Davis.

History will be corrected

Look man, the people with old money in this city and the people who grew up here do not support the bobcats. It's that simple.

The fanbase of the bobcats consists of:

1. People from out of state like NY, VA, Ohio, etc...who don't TRULY like the bobcats but have adopted them as their second team and really only go to games to see Lebron, Kobe, the Knicks, Cavs, etc.

2. Poor people who get free tickets to the nosebleed sections.

3. People who are from Statesville, Rock Hill, Bum fug Egypt North Carolina who just pull for a professional team so they don't have to watch Law and Order reruns all night. It also gives them a reason to leave their trailer park or poo hole house to visit a beautiful city. A lot of these people can be linked to example #2.

4. Kids in HS or fresh out of HS who have no idea what tradition is. They prob only know who MJ is based on his $200 sneakers and not his once in a lifetime type of basketball game.
