Bobcats Rebrand Update Thread (Real Charlotte Fans-Censorship Free Edition)

If Jordan and Cho stay commited to the plan, Bobs will be back in the playoffs in a few years. It takes good drafts, patience and luck. Ask Indiana, ask OKC.

Regardless of name, this is what we're all hoping for.

By that time your Charlotte Hornet snap backs will be played out. And NO will be adorning the Hornets in the playoffs as well. They're not giving you the name, history, or rights back and look at Hornets nostalgists as delusional. Creole blue! Lol.

This is a fad.

Whether you like it or not, the Charlotte Hornets are a part of NC pro sports history. You cannot simply strike 1988-2002 away from the record books, just as you'll never be able to strike the Bobcats' worst season in NBA history from the record books when it finally becomes official.

There is nothing wrong with people enjoying a look back at history, particularly if that memory is a positive one. Lots of people in this area have fond memories of the Charlotte Hornets, and you can't simply tell them they're wrong for bringing them back up.

It's like saying we should completely forget about anything Delhomme related because his exit was ugly and we now have Cam running the Panthers. The only difference here is that Cam is taking the team a step forward, while, if this movement is any indication, it's unclear where the Bobcats stand in terms of market share in Charlotte and the surrounding areas.

I never said forget. Hornets are a part of our history. But they are just that history. Romanticizing the past doesnt help us today. And that franchise has moved on. It seems the Hornets and their fans worldwide prefer the tourism and swamps of NO to the banks and churches of Charlotte. The Hornets still dont want to be here. You love them a lot more than they love you. Theyre never coming back.

Kelly Tripucka's not gonna walk thru that door friend. Dave Hoppen is not gonna walk thru that door friend. Kurt Rambis is not gonna walk thru that door friend. Matt Geiger isnt gonna walk thru that door. Tony Bennett is not walking thru that door. Rex Chapman aint walking thru that door. Tom Tolbert isnt walking thru that door. Mike Gminski is not walking thru that door homie. Frank Brickowski aint walking thru that door.

Asking us to recognize the past every once in awhile is one thing. Obsessing over and using the Hornets to bash the Bobs and demanding rebrands is another. Its a slap in the face.

Love how the only players you mentioned from the Hornets were white....way to keep consistent with the White Hornets vs. the Black Bobcats.

Typical for you though....you are what you are.

I think the Black Charlotte Hornets (that never played in New Orleans) would beat the poo out of the White Bobcats.

G- Muggsy Bouges vs. Matt Carroll

G- Kendall Gill vs. Jason Kapono

F- Glen Rice vs. Adam Morrison

F- Larry Johnson vs. Walter Hermann

C- Alonzo Mourning vs Primoz Brezec

Eddie Jones instead of Kendall Gill and Baron Davis instead of Muggsy(Even though Mugsy is the man) would be even better.

I guess KT ignores topics that he can't come up with a good response to. Glad there is actually a point of arguing with him. I suppose I was foolish to think he would actually contribute to a debate type of discussion.

I didn't use Baron because he also played in New Orleans- I agree Eddie would have been better to use that Kendall...

It's fun to debate with KT, just see what kind of craziness he can come up with.

In his latest, he states that the Hornets prefer swamps. Everyone knows that Hornets hates swamps almost as much as Tigers hate Cinnamon.

Hornets fans prefer New Orleans over Charlotte. NOLA Hornets aint givin you nothing. Theyre keeping your name since they cant have the Jazz back.

Actually, Benson would sell the Hornets name to Charlotte. The cost to get the name would actually be minimal. The tougher decision would be whether Michael would want to go forward with the entire rebrand. I'm sure once the NBA franchise in New Orleans changes their name officially, this conversation will open back up.

Michael just needs to see the value in making this decision and how much more marketable the Hornets would be, to the community, over the Bobcats. That is all he cares about. He doesn't care if Bob Johnson, his friend, came up with the Bobcats name or that the name was picked by a black owner. Jordan wants to sell tickets and if he's convinced this will sell tickets, he'll do it, if he can.

As far as saying names don't mean anything... Winnipeg Jets played in the NHL from 1972 to 1996. Many years with many fans. Jets were a staple of Winnipeg life and economy, as it was an important fueling spot for planes. Anyway, in 1996, the team moved to Atlanta. In Atlanta, they were renamed the Thrashes which is another generic name like the Bobcats. The team failed to find an identity with Atlanta and didn't sell out games. The team was then purchased and moved back to Winnipeg. The new owner debated with the Winnipeg Thrashers but decided to change the name back to the Winnipeg Jets.

This article sort of goes into this and move about the importance of marketing a GOOD team name:

Benson is not gonna sell the Hornets name, history, etc to the Bobcats. All the Hornets rights will remain with the NO franchise. As they should.

Stern has already said "NO" to New Orleans getting "their Jazz name back", and he will do the same if MJ asked the same of the Bobcats. Which MJ wont. The league would move the Bobcats to another market before they'd rebrand them. The lack of fan support and interest is a reason why Stern and the NBA wont do us any favors. They helped us get another team back here quickly and we havent held up our end of the bargain. There not gonna piss off sponsors and waste millions for lackluster fan support.

If you do get your wish and Benson does change from the Hornets (which IMO he wont now that his fans are bitching, the new choices suck, and he cant get Jazz) all it means is that the Hornets will no longer exist in the NBA. Imagine Stern having to convince sponsors in NO that the Hornets brand sucks and they should embrace a new one. Then have to turn around tell sponsors in NC how great the Hornets brand is and the Bobs should be dropped. Wont happen.

Like I said, this is a fad, Bobcats will be in Charlotte for years to come, Hornets will be in NO for years to come.

I believe the mod of this board would be better suited to run a Malcolm X board or a Black Panther (see what I did there?) board than this. Next week we'll be discussing how Willy T. Ribbs is the greatest racing driver of all time. Or maybe Lewis Hamilton, or Wendell Scott, or Bill Lester...

Any delusional racist fan tying themselves to a black supremacist former owner of the worst pro team in the nation has more issues than I have time to point out. Not that they'd be solved that way, anyway. I was glad to see that apparently KT and PSC made up 3% of the nickmane vote though, since that's how much support the ***cats got.

King T - I think your wrong on many points.

#1. Tom Benson will change the name, he said as much in his introductory press conference, the same Press conference where Stern says the Jazz will stay in Utah and "There are many things indigenous to the area, I'm sure there will be some wonderful nickname .

#2. The league would move the team before they allowed them to rebrand..... U can't be serious..... Did u not think about what just happened in New Orleans??? in case you missed it. The NBA bought the team themselves 2 years ago to avoid the team being sold and relocated to another city. If that wasn't enough, the team was recently sold to a local businesman who in the introductory press conference while sitting beside David Stern announced he was going to rebrand.... Rebranding is obviously favored over relocation.

#3. Tom Benson will not sale the name? Why not, he doesn't need it or want it. If you had something and didn't want it or need it and it was worth money, what would u do with it? If your smart, you would sell it to the guy that values it before he no longer values it and it becomes worthless.

#4. Stern wouldn't need to convince anyone to embrace the Hornets name... They already want it... plus all the "True" Bobcats fans will support them, no matter what the name is. The sponsors don't care about the name, they care about advertising their product. Whichever name generates the most ROI on their advertising $'s will be the name they favor and according to the polls, websites, and radio shows the brand Hornets wins by a landslide.

Wake me when the Hornets leave NO. You guys are dreaming. This has been a tough season on us all so I understand the need to escape. Bobcats aren't going anywhere though guys. This is Bobcat Country. Just ride downtown. You guys are fans of a team that no longer exists. I wouldnt trade places with you.

Bobcats are a horrible sports franchise no matter what you call them.

All the opinions, tirades, personal attacks, racial garbage and general ignorance won't make the team win games or be relevant to the sports world. If the mismanagement of the team by ownership continues not only will they not be called the bobcats OR the hornets, the team won't exist in this city anymore.

Feel free to pretend their a contender and pay to watch them throw poo at the wall hoping anything will stick.

Bobcats are what Charlotte Hornet fans wish they were. They want to be us. This thread proves it. You guys follow us. 2 years ago all of you has Bobcat avatars and sigs. Now you're hopping on this fad. Truth is, you failed your Hornets ancestors. We run Charlotte now and there's nothing you can do about it. Go Bobcats!
