Bobcats Rebrand Update Thread (Real Charlotte Fans-Censorship Free Edition)

It hurt peoples pride they needed Bobs money. Look at your last few posts MUNCH. Instead of depending on Bob, you shouldve been able to do for yourself. Now you're begging MJ. Learn to make it on your own, and you wont have to count on rich guys like Bob and MJ to always hold your hand.

I am supposed to go out and sign players? I'm supposed to run the team so they don't hemorrhage money?

I have done about all I can, I went to about 30 games each season for the first few seasons, I had jerseys, and I followed the Bobcats very closely. Eventually it begins to feel like you are throwing your money/time out the window, when you spend so much time at games, yet the team rarely presents a good product. Its hard to watch a team you follow consistently give out bad contracts and generally do things that don't help the team. The problem is the connotation of the name Bobcats leaves a bad taste in my mouth due to the history of the team, as it is I am sure with a lot of other people. That is why a name change I believe would be in the club's best interests. For the record, as cool as it would be to have the Hornet's name back for nostalgic purposes, I don't really care what the name is, the organization needs a clean slate IMO.

We did not NEED bob's money. There were several groups making a bid for the new franchise. It is just unfortunate that the NBA picked the wrong one.

As a result, the franchise has been run very poorly from the start and we are now in this mess of a roster.

Worst roster and team in the history of the NBA.... That is just amazing.

None of those other groups were ownership material and none of them are in ownership today. If someone from NC had stepped up, we wouldnt be the Bobcats. But no one locally did (a la Tom Benson in NO). And fact is whenever Bob wrote you a check, you took it. You depended on it. Whenever he gave you something, you never turned it down, including his bball team you still patronize and identify with to this day. Charlotte is now Bobcat country thanks to Bobs generosity and charity to the city of Charlotte. And thanks to Charlottes inability to control their fate or even be involved in the process at all. Even a rebrand decision would take place in NY not NC. Lol. The Bobcats moniker that our team adorns is a testament to Bobs continued influence on our city. And we wear it proudly 8 years and running. What other southern city can say that?

What better way to signify new ownership to the world? Charlotte's relationship with the NBA needs a makeover a refresh button. Jordan bringing back the Charlotte Hornets name would be a marketing stroke of genius.

I truly believe the Charlotte Hornet brand would sell nationwide better than the Bobcats. Old sponsors may reopen their checkbooks in such an event. I can't see a negative as far as endearing oneself to the community. Win, win.

I think we are actually lucky the name is becoming available in our present lifetimes. New Orleans can never have the "Jazz" back but Charlotte could actually have the "Hornets" name back. New Orleans would jump at that opportunity and so should MJ and Charlotte.

I couldn't see why anybody would be upset about a city regaining it's NBA birthright. Imagine the party that would take place to open the new "Hive"!

King T - why do you think the Bobcats website is selling Charlotte Hornet gear right now?

I think the new Bobcats owner must be a racist and wants to undermine the legacy of the great Bob Johnson. I mean why else would those fake owners do that?

I mean they are trying to push the Cougars down our throat, now Hornets gear as well. This is a direct insult and planned attack against the great Bob Johnson

We must unite to protect Bobs legacy.

WTF does that even mean? I wish he would write me a rebate check for all my tickets bought, payback for the terrible product he put on the floor for so many years.

Bob Johnson's generosity? The NBA would have given just about anyone with money a team here. They didn't want the Hornets to move, but they didn't want to set a bad precedent in forcing a team to stay in a city so they let them go. Where else have you seen a team leave a city, and that city get a new team within 3 years?

Bob Johnson's continued influence in the city? He was barely at any of the home games. Outside of the minority community, I cannot find anything charity-wise or outreach wise that he did of substance in the city. Are we talking about the same Bob Johnson that wanted to charge CMS schools to hold their graduations at TWC Arena? All he was seeking was another feather in his cap. First black guy on forbes list, first black millionaire, and now first minority owner in a major sport. It is pretty obvious to anyone with open eyes that he pretty much phoned it in after it became official.

Philadelphia. Warriors left in 61, 76ers came a year later.

In baseball, Giants left NY in late 50s, Mets came a few years later. Even have a similar NY logo

Keep playing the hopeless victim MUNCH, you do it well.

So your rebuttal is citing 2 events that happened around 50 years ago? You are right, that argument is relevant. The country and sports as a whole were almost exactly the same as it is now. Also, the NBA was very fluid at that time. Since that move 19 teams either joined the NBA, or were founded. 6 Teams were added between '60-'69 alone. MLB was too, 8 teams added to the majors between 1960-1970. When have that many teams been added to any sport in the last 20 years?

Who is playing a victim? Feeling like I flushed a bunch of money down the toilet in trying to support the Bobcats for years makes me a hopeless victim? Bob Johnson never spent any of his money to bring in players to make the team competitive, so why should I feel justified in spending my hard earned money on his product? Its like paying 50k for a Lexus that was held together by duct tape and superglue, I would feel ripped off.

And in my whole post that is the only statement you want to comment on? Nothing like picking and choosing your talking points.

It's not a fad, this story was from 2010.

Rebrand is a long time coming.

http://blogs.charlotte.com/inside_the_nba/2010/02/should-bobcats-name-depart-too.html

Jordan says himself, that if the community wants it- he will change the name.

If Jordan and Cho stay commited to the plan, Bobs will be back in the playoffs in a few years. It takes good drafts, patience and luck. Ask Indiana, ask OKC.

By that time your Charlotte Hornet snap backs will be played out. And NO will be adorning the Hornets in the playoffs as well. They're not giving you the name, history, or rights back and look at Hornets nostalgists as delusional. Creole blue! Lol.

This is a fad.

Bobcats will be here longer than the Hornets were. We aint goin nowhere baby. Bobs 4 life!!!!! Middle fingers raised high to the sky on some Tupac shhh.
