The Fall Of Vontaze Burfict

I don't see the big deal with him? There are people on here screaming for Jenkins who has been cited for marijuana possession multiple times. Burfict sounds like he just needs to have a mentor...its not like he's using drugs which apparently is fine with some on here as long as you run a 4.4 forty.

He's got talent, he showed that his first 2 years of college. He got out of shape and out of control his last year and fell apart when the leader of their defense was lost for the season. He needs mentors that he can respect and look up to.

With Beason and Davis we could be the perfect situation for him. For a low round pick or as an UDFA he would be a great pickup. If he comes in and gets his head straightened out, we could have a hell of a linebacker. If he doesn't, what did we really lose by bringing him in?

Taylor Mays 2.0

Guy is gunna be garbage no matter what LB "helps" him along in the NFL. He's not strong, He's not fast, He's not quick, and has a temper of a 8yr old elemantry school bully. No go on this kid, don't want a head case like that in the Panthers locker room.

Smitty might end up knockin his punk a$$ out and get suspended.

PASS

What do you gain from bringing him in..a guy that needs baby sitters? Winning teams have adults playing for them.

Mentors? Enroll him in a boys and girls club.

At least Janorious Jenkins and Pac Man Jones could play while they were on the field..and had elite skills.

How much advice and time is Beason and Davis going to commit to a rookie who cant play at this level? Who have they developed and mentored in the past? Why would the Panther need Buffet if guys off the street are at least servicible with no mentoring.

dont forget our HC is a former LB and he has a lot of attitude to go with it. Doubt he would play any games with RR.

You gain a guy that put up 228 tackles, 22.5 TFL, 7 sacks and 11 pass breakups in his 3 years in college (including 90 tackles with 8.5 TFL as a true sophomore). He took a big step back when the guy on that defense he looked up to went out for the season this past year. He has talent. He's shown it on the field (just not his last one).

Low risk, high reward.

If he comes in and doesn't learn, doesn't improve and doesn't respect the players and coaches then you cut him. If he comes in and continues to get personal foul after personal foul, you cut him. And if you cut him, then it is exactly the same as cutting that 7th rounder or UDFA at the end of training camp.

He's got a ton more upside than almost ever UDFA that will be out there.

The reward is low..which is also the regard Most scouts and GMs will have for him...

If this was the Panthers 7th rd pick id be disappointed. A punter will actually make an impact in a game.

Barf-fict is not a better college guy than Eric Norwood, who has yet to find a nitch with speed and great instincts.

What exactly makes his reward low? He produced his first two years in college. If he gets his act together, there is no reason to believe that he couldn't become a big contributor.

I would love to take Bryan Anger or Shaun Powell in the 7th, but if they aren't there, then there isn't any punters that you can count on to come in and win the punting job right away. And if you draft a punter at all, he absolutely should win the punting job.

Burfict and Norwood are two completely different players. There is no use at all in comparing them.

I agree Burficit and Norwood are completley different players...one was draftable and made all SEC 1st team.

If Burficit had zero attitude and maturity questions he was a 6th rounder based on the combine alone. He wasnt just slightly off the mark he had dts and Olineman run faster than him.

Is he chasing down a hb or TE? No.

Spikes out of Fla ran a similar(still faster) 40 time had incredible instincts and is servicable.

Im not just trolling your love for this guy im saying that he will need too much investment in time, mentoring, Baby sitting and then hopefully he might work out and not cuss out the locker room and punch a ref. With all that taking care of he is still a slow, questionable prospect.

I was all about him last season...one bad year can break you and then the combine confirms or contridicts the questions. His combine and pro day were both disasterous.

I never said he was a have to have, can't miss prospect. All I'm saying is the kid has talent that he's shown on the field. One year ago he was a First Team All-American (which last time I checked was better than First Team All-SEC).

You don't expect any 7th rounder or UDFA to come in and start right away (or get significant minutes for that matter.) They are all projects that need to sit and be developed. If anyone selected that late gets PT as a rookie, then that is considered a bonus.

And since you brought it up, at their respective Pro Days, Brandon Spikes ran a 5.06 40 and Burfict ran a 4.80.
