Joe Person Says "draft Is Shaping Up" (Lol)

"apparently there is this process the nfl goes through every april where teams take turns picking the best players from college football 7 times. I don't know what it's called yet, but apparently the panthers are involved. More info to come."

I agree with this statement!

This is why I'm not as quick as others to call Dwayne Jarrett and Keary Colbert a bust. I think Jake and the coaching staff had a lot to do with their struggles as they did, minus the Dwayne Jarrett off the field issues.

Jarrett had one of the best hands on the team, but all we heard was that he struggled to learn the playbook and couldn't get separation, but if you think about it, how much of Jarrett did we really get to see for ourselves?

There's no way Lafell would've had his breakout year with Jake as his QB, and the only reason Keary had the year he had in '04 was because Smitty was on IR.

I like what Jake did for this team, but he was definitely a 1 read QB.

You probably picked the 2 worst examples for proving your point. Colbert sucked for multiple teams and no one in the nfl will even touch Jarrett.

Floyd will be a bust. No need to pick a WR in the first two rounds. Go DL, CB or LB in the first/second rounds IMO.

After that I would pesonally like to see some young depth on the O line and a late round WR to bring in for competition.

We already have young depth at oline but agree with the rest of your post.

If we draft a wr I want a late round guy that can do PR/KR as well as work with the offense.

First of all Clausen was never a great quarterback so 2010 is irrelevant.

Just to help clarify this one particular point, I think he meant Smitty is a great WR and couldn't make Clausen look competent, not that Clausen was good and should have made his receivers look better.

We have had the debate about whether the quarterback makes the receivers or the receiver makes the quarterback back and forth for years. I think the fact that Newton came in and instantly Smitty had the second best year of his career settled that for most folks. Obviously there has to be a synergy between the 2 of them and they help each other, but clearly the instant improvement suggests that a great quarterback makes receivers better which is my point. We can get a receiver in the second round or even later who can be an impact player for us given the offense we run and Cam's skills. I have high hopes that Gettis is going to have a big year as well.

Yea, I don't disagree with your point. I was just clarifying what looked like a misunderstanding on what the other guy meant. I think in certain cases the WRs make the QB look better than he is (most of Kurt Warner's career, Eli) and in certain cases the QB makes the WR look better than he is (Welker, Marino's WRs, Colt WRs not named Reggie Wayne or Marvin Harrison, Saint WRs not named Colston). There's no blanket statement that can be made that fits all situations in this phenomenon.
