Carolina Panthers Should Rebrand To Hornets

Hey guys, how do you feel about the Panthers rebranding to the Hornets? Charlotte's first pro football was named the Hornets and its a big part of this city's history. In fact, Hornets Nest Rebellion is the last memorable thing or event to happen in Charlotte. If we were called the Hornets it would re-energize our fanbase. We have one of the least visible and popular logos and brands in the NFL. It's not uncommon to walk in a Foot Locker or sports apparel store in Charlotte and see more Falcons, Steelers, and Cowboy jerseys. Or 20 variations of Falcons hats while not having a single Panther one. Black panthers are virtually non existent in the Carolinas and we need a name and logo that better represents us. We have Hornest Nest Park, CMPD's logo is a hornest nest, etc. We need a logo that would sell and look cooler than a Panther head.

The Charlotte Hornets were the first and biggest pro team in our city and states history. The Hive in its prime was more electric than BOA ever has been, and the Hornets were not a sub . 500 franchise like our Panthers. They actually produced back to back winning seasons. Their buzz locally was larger than anything the Panthers had in 03. I'm just saying, with the emergence of Cam, now is the time to rebrand and capitalize on the hype. The Hornets logo and merchandise would sell like crazy for us, gameday attendance, would increase, and people in the city would take more pride in us. We'd be able to gain back those fans we lost when we drafted Cam and gain all the old Hornets fans back. If Im JR I strongly take a look at changing over to the purple and teal. Hell, Cam already prefers Hornets snapbacks over Panther ones. So what do you guys think?

I gotta agree with KT here. I like the Panthers colors and unis (although I wouldn't mind black pants and helmets.) but I've never understood the whole Panthers/Bobcats thing. They do not represent NC. The Hurricanes nailed it with something that makes you think of NC.

When I think of Hurricanes I think of Florida or New Orleans. I don't think where you are really matters..It's just a mascot..Pittsburgh Penguins comes to mind immediately.

    • He makes a good point about Wallace.  In fairness to Wallace it is hard to play your position as freely as you need to when your defensive line is getting pushed around like ragdolls.  One of the greatest attributes a defensive line has is sucking up blocks, freeing up your linebackers.  Our defensive line couldn't suck up a lollipop more or less blocks.  I think Evans, Sanders and Tremble are going to be a really nice TE group.  I can see all three getting time on the field.  If Sanders can improve as a blocker teams won't be so inclined to believe it is a pass play whenever Sanders is on the field.  Ryan Fitzgerald, I think was an awesome pick-up. Hopefully he can fill our kicker void. Luke Kandra many turn out to be our next Norwell.  Everything I have heard about him says he's a beast.  He needs some refinement, but the good news is he's got Hunt and Lewis (arguably the best guard tandem in the league) to learn from.
    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
    • They also came out for the encore and the singers were dressed in canes jerseys. Pretty fuging cool.
