Pft's Panther Team Needs

The Special One

Recommended Posts

I am one of the few that doesn't think that DT and CB are that big of needs.

At DT we have two very young DTs that played well at times and will have a full offseason this year, plus the added bonus of Ron Edwards returning from IR.

At CB we have Gamble who was really great last season, and Brandon Hogan who will finally be healthy to compete for the #2 CB or nickel spot.

I would rather see us upgrade the LB, DE, and safety spots before either the DT or CB position.

It also would be nice to get another playmaker at WR and solidify the RT position.

So if it were my call I would say our biggest areas of need are (in no particular order):

DE

LB

WR

S

RT

But what do i know!

Outside of safety I mostly agree.

the LB and OL are talented but unstable. They need depth and talent to step in should injuries arise. This team needs to always focus on helping Newton develop and let him use his abilities to his max potential.

Our pass coverage against WRs wasn't that bad last year. We had no pass rush and we got killed underneath by RBs, FBs, and TEs because we don't have any LBs that can cover and safeties that can't tackle.

Also a pass rush will make Captain look a lot better.

If there is a really good CB that falls to us or is available then by all means make that pick. But until we get our front 7 fixed it won't matter if we trade for Revis we are still going to struggle against the pass.

Our struggles against the pass were not because of our CBs in my opinion.

Yes, Yes Yes, a good D-line makes your secondary better but it cannot make up for mediocre CB play.

We are in a division with Drew Brees who manipulates the pocket as well as any QB and is able to make a completion with a lot of pass rush bearing down on him.

Remember when they played the Lions for example? The Lions were getting great pass rush but Drew still made big plays because their CBs are mediocre for the most part. His guys were getting open on man to man coverage a lot. Even when they played the Giants they were victimized due to lacking a legit #2 corner.

I think 1 #2 guy from the draft is what we need. Captain should not be used for more than nickel packages.

Improving D-Line and CB are the #1 needs IMO.

We still need a strong secondary, we're in a division with Brees and Matt Ryan. Both Lit us up last season through the air, Butler got absolutely smoked on that catch by Julio, Hogan hasn't showed me enough, Munnerlyn gets absolutely abused by bigger receivers.

I am more concerned about S play....

Not disagreeing about the importance based on the QBs we played. CBs are basically on islands with our horrible S play.

Thr big passing TDs we got torched with often were TDs bc of the Ss. IMO, both Godfrey and Martin were every bit as bad as Captain

Which is why be brought in safety competition.

I hate to break this to you, but if Brees manipulates the pocket and gets himself time to throw, it doesn't matter if we have 4 Deion Sanders in our secondary we would get torched. If any NFL QB can move around in the pocket and give himself a few extra seconds he is going to be successful.

It is impossible to cover today's wide receivers with the new rules for more than 2 or 3 seconds. No matter how good you are. It also doesn't matter how good your CBs are if you can't cover the RBs, FBs, and TEs.

With Gettys and Lafell complimenting Smith why would we even be looking @ a WR?

Because the Team is Cam and Cam is the Team and when you have a star QB you always look at Oline and people to catch the ball. Even if you go another way; you look at helping your QB. While the Panthers may not take a WR, they are talking to Blackmon, Floyd, and Hill among others so, they are at least interested in WR upgrades

If there are defensive lineman we really like at 9 and 40 then I say take them. We can give the kid from West Virginia a chance at corner. One of the biggest problems last year was lack of depth on the line. Sure the key guys stayed healthy most of the year but they took way to many snaps. We need a rotation.

I'm really going into this draft open minded, the Panther would have to try really hard to piss me off.

73.6% the worst Cb in football last year.

Blackmon maybe a upgrade. Neither Floyd or Hill is at this point IMO.
