Verge Mock Draft 2.0

1. Colts: Andrew Luck: Yup.

2. Redskins: RGIII: Yup.

3. Dolphins (trade): Ryan Tannehill: I foresee the Vikings trading this pick to the higher bidder, and seeing as the Dolphins are reportedly in love with this kid (I don't blame them, he will be a franchise qb) they feel the need to go ahead and trade up to get him. He will shoot up draft boards by the draft and the Browns will want him as their next qb as well.

4. Browns: Trent Richardson: Browns lose out on Tannehill so they will have to "settle" here, not that taking the third best player in the draft is settling or anything. There is no better way to find out if Mccoy is your guy than with a great rb who is the best rb prospect I have seen in a long while. If he produces with him then good, if not, then he is out.

5. Buccaneers: Morris Clairborne: Best cb available and can help them tremendously in special teams as well, this is a no-brainer even if Richardson was on the board.

6. Rams: Matt Kalil: Kalil fell to them and they need to protect Bradford, he won't be able to get the ball to receivers if he is on his butt all day. Kalil is an elite tackle right off the board

7. Jaguars: Justin Blackmon: Best wr prospect in the draft falls here and the Jags, who have Mike Thomas as their starting wide out, will be absolutely thrilled to have him on he team to help Gabbert progress as a qb, this draft is all about helping Gabbert.

8. Vikings: Riley Reiff: They trade down so they miss out on Kalil, but Reiff is pretty dang good as well, either way, they need to protect Ponder and this is a good way to go about it.

9. Panthers: Michael Floyd: I know everyone is projecting a DT here but I just don't see an impact DT on the board that I would want to take as a top 10 pick. Floyd has shot up draft boards now that everyone is seeing how much talent he has. The Panthers are happy with a true future replacement for Smith.

10. Bills: Jonathan Martin: The Bills have not filled that hole at tackle since Jason Peters left, the line played pretty well in the early parts of the year but wore down later, they need that franchise tackle, and Martin can do that just fine.

11. Chiefs: David DeCastro: DeCastro is really the only logical pick here without the Chiefs reaching, he can start immediately and is a huge upgrade over Ryan Lilja.

12. Seahawks: Michael Brockers: The Seahawks need some pressure from the interior, Brockers is explosive as heck and is a great prospect, the Seahawks get a steal here.

13. Cardinals: Luke Kuechly: This is really a great pick for the Cards who have a big need at ILB, he will star and make an impact for this D.

14. Cowboys: Dontari Poe: The Cowboys need to get some more dlinemen, Poe is a great talent who, apparently, they Cowboys love. The Cowboys not have a great dline with this pick.

15. Iggles: Fletcher Cox: With this pick the Eagles officially have the best D-line in football and will be able to make a serious push for the playoffs with such a devastating line. Cole-Jenkins-Cox-Babin, daaaang. Oh, yeah, he is the best player on the board as well. I am honestly not sure how he fell here.

16. Jets: Melvin Ingram: Best player on the board, best pass rusher on the board, they need a pass rush pretty bad, and Ingram gives them an explosive DE.

17. Bengals: Dre Kirkpatrick: I don't really like the guy as a prospect, who is not really explosive and he has a not care attitude, he does fill a need next to Leon Hall and should be just fine at cb2.

18. Chargers: Mark Barron: They do not have a SS that is of nfl caliber, and Barron is a great safety who will translate into a solid, consistent, safety. I would not be surprised if they took Michael Floyd though.

19. Bears: Courtney Upshaw: They get an elite toy here, he does not have a true position and the Bears can shove him at linebacker, or defensive end, they have a good enough team to make this a luxury pick and Upshaw is the best player on the board.

20. Titans: Peter Konz: They will presumably be moving forward with Jake Locker and Chris Johnson as the future, so you need to make some holes for these talented runners and make this offense dominant. Konz is the best lineman on the board and will provide those holes.

21. Bengals: Cordy Glenn: They need some better players in the interior, Glenn allows them to protect Dalton and opens more holes for whomever their running back may be.

22. Browns: Brandon Weeden: Welp, I think the Browns are sold enough on Weeden to take him late in the first, though I think they should either trade down and grab him or just outright select Kendall Wright. Weeden will be very good, make no mistake, just his age makes him a question going to an incomplete offense.

23. Lions: Stephen Gilmore: Easy pick, the Lions don't have a good cb, Gilmore has elite talent and can start right away so he is an immediate help to this playoff hopeful team.

24. Steelers: Jerel Worthy: They need to invest in the future, and replacing the aging Hampton with a big man just as talented would be a good idea, they can get the most out of him and make him a starter in the line by next year.

25. Broncos: Stephen Hill: Peyton Manning needs more than an explosive but ijury prone Thomas and a solid receiver in Decker, drafting Hill here ensures Manning will have an elite squad to make the Broncos one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL.

26. Texans: Kendall Wright: They need someone more explosive than Jones, and this is a dominant wideout who can do it all, he will also free Andre up some more to make this offense the best in the league.

27. Patriots: Qunton Coples: Huge amount of potential for Bill to mold, he could of been top five but he will fall due to flaws in his game, the patriots are happy to pick up a potential all pro DE.

28. Packers: Nick Perry: They need some help at OLB, and Perry falling here makes him an outright steal who will help as soon as he hits training camp.

29. Ravens: Dont'a Hightower: It's a miracle he fell here an the Ravens won't even hesitate.

30. 49ers: Alshon Jeffery: They need someone opposite of Crabtree, and to be honest, if Jeffery pans out, he will easily surpass Crabtree and be a main stay on this offense, Alex Smith will sure be happy.

31. Patriots: Devon Still: They need help in the dline and Still is a steal right here, he is right up there with Brockers as far as upside and is an immediate starter, the Patriots sure up their defense with just two picks.

32. Giants: Mike Adams: They need oline help and Adams makes sense here.

    • Because being a pauper in the NFL is still making a king's ransom. NFL vet min is roughly 18x the median salary in the U.S.
    • At some point I sense it's gonna create some hate and locker room cancer between these cap hogs and the rest of the players. When the top 6 or 7 players take 80% of the cap, the other 40 plus guys are gonna get pissed off, especially when they're still only winning 5 or 6 games. Why put everything on the line to play with guys who are only in it for themselves?
    • I am just spitballing here--let it play out and I will go to bed: Let's say Mahome's contract comes due and he insists on $100m per season.  Is there a team that would find the money to pay it?  Would KC? It was in 2015 (I think) when Cam was getting $20m and it was hard to grasp.  In the past decade, the price of a franchise QB has tripled.  Then the next QB bases his contract on the Mahomes deal.  The trend has been the last QB contract is the highest.  I see nothing to discourage that trend--Greed can destroy a league.  Personally, I don't watch baseball any more, and the NBA has a small group of about 8 teams that appear on national TV and they have players who make more than some eastern block countries.  Ticket prices go up---and we are headed for pay-per-view very soon across the board-
