More Pressure From Carolina D

Davis ain't playing a full season.

Drafting Luke would benefit the 2012 Panthers most likely more than a DT in this draft.

I would take Coples over Luke. Then I would consider drafting a LB like David in the 2nd if I didn't love the CB

That's not a very good way too cheer on one of our defensive captains that has done nothing but battled back from a terrible injury. We have to rally around Davis one last time, he deserves it.

This LBer class is terrible. I'd be fine with getting a guy for depth in 2nd or 4th, but if Davis went down again, next years draft has plenty of star potential at linebacker.

You mean when he had 7 Tds passes in 8 quarters and Smitty was on average to top 2000 yards. No he was going to be awful that year.

smith also was on average to top 2000 yards after week two this year, and based on his first two games, cam newton should've thrown for like 6800 yards. Jake was barely productive against the falcons until his arm gave out during the game. his leading receiver was like deshaun foster or something.

you're committing debate suicide by extrapolation

I hope Davis comes back and plays 16 games....it is just unlikely and would be dumb for Carolina to count on him doing such. Have to have a plan for him being finished.

Yeah but then lets say Davis plays all 16, and performs at a very high level just like pre-knee injury. Kuechly just plays back up for the next couple years and special teams?

We need our first pick to come in and contribute immediately. Not compete for a job or hope for the starter to get injured.

this isn't a problem you need to spend the 9th overall pick to fix

When you can add great talent you do it....that is what BPA is all about. Talent gets onto the field. No point overthinking how....3 LB spots.

yes because our only two solutions to choose from are "JORDAN SENN" or "LUKE KEUCHLY"

We haven't signed a back up capable of starting. Senn started at WLB for a few games last year. So yeah... in essence he would be the next guy up if we don't draft Kuechly.

I agree that extrapolation is not very accurate or a great way to make a case. But I don't know about you but I was very excited with how well he played out of the box. He was usually streaky and he was on fire until he got hurt. I had visions that he would have a career year inn 2007. We see how that turned out.

My main point against Keuchly is that Keuchly is a linebacker, a position that we have two pro-bowlers to come back and contribute. I believe Beason will return to ATLEAST good form, and for you to say otherwise is to be guessing as much as I am. Davis on the other hand, has potential. I'm not sure how much, but to use the 9th pick on a devalued position seems pointless, especially when we have two studs to begin with.

DT and DE are positions we got pushed around at last year, this isn't me guessing or making an "extrapolation", this is simply fact. To upgrade something we were shitty at seems pretty logical to me. We have noone returning from injury at this position beside Edwards, and its not like he is exactly a budding star, he is coming off an injury in his 30's. Our Dline has plenty of room for improvement, our LB core, if returned to form, doesn't need much improving. To say "we should draft just in case" seems pretty foolish. There is just as much potential, in my mind, for this pick to be a waste of a pick as there is for it to be necessary. DT and DE are necessary regardless of what happens to Beason and Davis.

What we have is 1 pro-bowler who missed 15 games last year with a potential career ending injury which the most definitive study on achilles injuries suggests will limit his effectiveness. We have another linebacker who had one good season back in 2009 but hasn't seen the field in almost 3 years and is trying to be the first player to ever come back from 3 ACLs and a journeyman who had a great year when he was essentially the only guy back there making plays.

On the other hand we have Edwards coming back and we drafted 2 DTs last year and picked up several more as the season wore on but thi is an area of weakness. And we have 2 starting DEs who had pretty good years and picked up Dillard, resigned Applewhite and have Keiser as a good backup but again this position is weaker than linebacker.

And lets totally forget CB or even tackle which are just as big of issues as defensive line. And lets ignore the coach who said that DT was not a position of need.

Yeah if you forget all that then I guess D line is a big concern.
