I have a hard time thinking we'll sign anyone though. And I wouldn't care. Save it for next year.

Shock

Maybin

Those are the only ones that intrigue me, the rest are meh. Rather save the money for next year though. Might need it for stew.

i thought maybin was universally regarded as a horrific bust? bills cut him after taking him 11th overall in 2009?

edit: looked up and saw that he did decent in the jets 3-4 and they put a 1st round tender on him, so you can go ahead and scratch him off any want list

I don't get this June 1st theory. I've never seen a link but I'm willing to accept Travelle's cap space will free up June 1st. Even if that is the case, how do we know espn and all these other news outlets haven't taken that into consideration when they list a teams "cap space"?

here is the line below

http://blogs.charlot...le-wharton.html

But Wharton, 30, was set to make $5.7 million in base salary this year, with a cap figure of $7.6 million.

The Panthers instead chose to re-sign veteran guard Geoff Hangartner to a three-year contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, although Hangartner made $1 million last year and likely will not approach Wharton's salary number in his new deal.

“It was an extremely difficult decision on Travelle,” Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said in a release.

“He’s been a tremendous player for us and he is a class act. It got to the point where in the big picture we decided it was a move we needed to make. We placed a June 1 designation on his release, which means we will carry his cap number until June 1, but Travelle is immediately able to negotiate and sign with another team.”

The June 1 designation will allow the Panthers to spread out the $3.7 million cap hit over the next two years.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now if we our holding on to his contract until June 1st, that means once June 2nd comes, we only will have half of the 3.7 Million hit this years, and then we have the remaining portion of the 7.6 Million be available after June 1st.

Crap, never knew they put a tender on him. Never mind.

Holy crap, that's a nice chunk of change... But isn't 5 or so mil allocated for the Rookies? You'd be looking at 8.8 mil then no?

Yea a percentage is set aside or pooled for the rookie class, the pool will probably be around 7 million with the top ten pick. Leaving around 7 million, I expect that the team will try to sign Shockey. I wouldn't expect anything other then that, the Panther's need to move that money to next season's cap to help out there.
