nobody hates stewart and is eager to run him out of town. some people just think there are more important positions than running back and want to focus fixing some of other more pressing and more important holes rather than continue to overspend on a devalued easy to fill position.

can't understand why people don't want to give stewart a fat contract? very simply, spending money at one position means you have less to spend on other positions. what I don't understand is how this VERY basic VERY simple concept still seems to elude some people.

Getting rid of Stewart to fix other positions creates a problem at the RB position.

Contrary to dumb belief, Deangelo =/= Stewart.

much easier fix though

DWill + Tolbert + mid rounder is still a perfectly fine backfield and better than a lot of teams in the league

rather see us spend that $50+ mill that stewart is going to command on say... DLine maybe? CB? positions that aren't as easy to fill and will have a bigger impact on winning games

Easiest fix was let your old first rounder walk.

Stewart + Tolbert +mid rounder......and you would have had money last year and this year to add talent with Williams' money.

Why do fans overly concern themselves with the salary cap, and how much a player is being paid? At the lease, Marty has proven that the salary cap can easily manipulated every year to add needed players.

Also it's not the Panthers philosophy to go out and pay for these big name free agents, so no matter how far we're under the cap it's just not gonna happen.

Best group of RBs in the game! I for one, are happy about it. We will never be big spenders in FA, might as well pay our top guys.

Hard to acquire missing pieces when you overpay so many and put highly paid players on the sideline.

Avoiding the Mario Williams of every FA period isn't a bad thing. Not being able to plug your holes with solid vets hurts though

that would have been better. i actually suggested that we trade DWill when it was the last year of his rookie deal (and we were in the midst of a 2-14 season). Could have got a 3rd + 5th easy. And suggested if we did to draft Kendall Hunter with the 3rd, a guy I liked, and he's looked very good so far in the NFL.

but hey, can't go back in time. i'm just looking at the situation from right now. DWill's already locked up and has a lot of guaranteed money still to hit the cap whether he's here or not. Unless he completely falls apart we're pretty much stuck with him for at least a couple more years.

really? where are all these needed players we've been adding?

and nobody is suggesting big name free agents, but a solid starting caliber vet or two would help a ton

What talent were we getting with Deangelo money? Does someone have a specific target that could have realistically been signed or is this just we could have upgraded plenty positions type of argument?

You are too focused on 1 player being named.

Depth/competition on this team is weak. Mainly the defensive side of the ball. We could of used a lot of players last year.

So thin we treat Godfrey like a stud. So thin Captain had ton be our #2 CB. So thin we lose an unknown aging DT we just picked up in FA and are immediately screwed. So thin when our LB who blew out his ACL out twice in a small window went down again we didn't have a solid option.

But yeah....let's pay a lot of money for a RB to stand on the sideline

the year after the lockout there were nearly double the amount of free agents compared to most years. there were a TON of quality 2nd tier free agents that signed at cheap/reasonable deals. hell you had a carlos rodgers sign for a little over $2 million and then went on to have a pro bowl year. meanwhile we're giving DWill a $43 million deal to get 9 carries a game and trotting out a 7th round midget that graded out as the worst starting CB in the league.
