Panthers Like Cb Gilmore

The Special One

Recommended Posts

I live in Columbia and have been here for about 6 years. I have followed Gilmore since he went to South Pointe (HS) in Rock Hill (originally from that area).

My assessment:

He's a pure athlete. Fluid, and makes big plays look pretty easy. Has the size that you want in a corner. On field play can be a little suspect at times. I can agree with the post regarding it taking him a while to get going. When he does get going, teams simply would not throw in his direction. However, when he gets exposed and burnt, it was usually for a big gain. Didn't give up a lot of big plays, but when he did it was very noticable that it was his mistake.

No lack of effort or character issues with Gilmore. High motor, and has abilities as a punt returner. He played quarterback in high school and there were packages the Gamecocks used coined the 'Wildcock' where he would come in at QB. That just shows the kind of athlete he is.

As far as taking him at #9, it seems like a reach to me. It could be me being a Gamecock fan and following him for so long, knowing that he is prone to certain mistakes which seem frequent at times, I would feel better seeing us go a different direction with the #9 pick. I wouldn't hate it, but am really on the fence...as far as trading back and being able to select him, that would be awesome.

All in all, yes, a starting caliber CB, but not as good as say Dunta Robinson or Johnathan Joseph in terms of Gamecock corners.

If Gantt is right and we are trying to trade back then we are looking at guys who might be there if we draft between 15-25. I can't believe we would look for him at 9 but we might. You know what I say which is if this is your guy, he is worth it at any pick.

I too have a package called 'wildcock.' My wife is a big fan.

Gilmore is gonna bust hard at corner. If some team is smart enough to play him at safety maybe he'll have a chance.

Not sure I follow why you think he is better suited at safety?? Please elaborate....

He's about as pure a corner I have seen.

Aside from his above-average physical attributes, what makes you think he can cut it at cornerback? Tight hips, backpedal is really high, and atrocious footwork are HUGE red flags for any corner. If you're adamant about taking him a corner, he's a pure zone corner. He just doesn't have the physical talents to play in man coverage. The tight hips make me feel he needs to move to safety.

He excelled in man coverage in the SEC, which is why he is in the position he is in now. He's a true man up corner...there are hardly any zone schemes in Gamecock defense, especially not on his side.

His twitter name is BumpNRunGimore for God's sake....

Just callin it as I see it my man. I doubt anyone actually wants him to play safety, but that would be the smart thing to do in my opinion. I sure as hell hope we don't take that sort of risk, I've watched this movie too many damn times.

Really? Above average stats? What is above average about a 6 and a half inch corner with 31" arms that runs a 4.4? That's great, not above average.

Saying he could only play safety in the NFL when he constantly covered the best the SEC had to offer is just plain stupid. He won't be a top 3 corner in the league, but he'll be more than enough to play every scheme that a starter needs to in the NFL.

Everybody with half a brain and decent eyes sees he has first round corner talent.

Another example of Huddlers completely talking out of their ass....and have no idea what they are talking about.
