Brockers Vs Cox

Sione Fua is Edwards replacement. Run stoppers grow on trees. 3-tech pass rushers don't. That's my conclusion.

God help this team if we settle for Fua as our future starting run stopper...

IMO, McClain and Neblett are the 3-tech pass rushers of our future, and I feel MUCH better about that than I would with Fua as our run stopper...

Another thing about cox vs Alabama and brockers vs Alabama....cox played against a weaker line with Barrett jones out at LT and a revolving door at RG, cox looked alright against warmack but most of his dominant plays were on whoever was playing RG. Brockers played against them when jones was playing and McCullough was the permanent starter at RG. Not trying to bash Cox because he's the one o ultimately want us to pick, but it's something to think about

If they are looking for a safe pick then it won't be Brockers or Cox. At this point neither are a sure bet. If we don't go Coples or Ingram, then it won't be a defensive linemen in my opinion. I just don't think we go with a DT honestly. We will look at LB or CB or even OL in that case.

I would be really interested for some you to to break down the the play of our existing DL.Did we draft 2 bust at DT last year or what should we expect this coming year.I think and hope Ron Edwards will be fine but I am concerned about the U tackle and Hardys ability to defend the run.I am interested in what you think about Kerse and Neblett who I thought played better than the rookies.I understand we did not have an off season and some of these guys should be able to be coached up but who?

We have multiple needs with limited draft picks and money. Some of these guys we drafted last year have to step up and be starters other than Cam

in general DTs can struggle and go through a bit of adjustment when they first enter the NFL. however, our rookie DTs last season were just horrible and got outplayed by guys that were sitting at home on their couches before we signed them. i don't see them ever being better than marginal backup caliber players

kearse and neblett could both be decent backup/rotation guys but not real starters or impact players. getting edwards back should help a lot. he's not a stud or anything but he'd still be a pretty noticeable upgrade of who we have now. add a guy like cox at UT next to him and the line starts to look a lot better.

we still need help at DE too though. CJ is very good but not elite. he'd be like the 4th or 5th best DE on the Giants right now. adding an elite DE across from him and letting hardy rotate in would be ideal.

I think starting 2 rookie DTs with no off-season or training camp was a formula for disaster and it showed. It is hard to know what we have until we see them in preseason this year. Fua was clearly overwhelmed while McClain is fine in rotational duty he wore out as the year unfolded. I expect big improvement this year but don't expect either to start all year but be rotational guys. Maybe next year or for a few games but not all this year. I expect Edwards to start and be good against the run like he has for a decade.

I expect Neblett or Kearse to start this year at undertackle with Cherry and McClain rotating in as well.

I think that Hardy is not as bad against the run as it appeared since he had to pinch in all the time to help the run game. He was not good enough to compensate for poor DT play but should be better as the DT play improves. If we pick a DE in the draft I still think Hardy will be better. After a full offseason, I think the whole line will be better. I just am not planning on a rookie DT or DE to come in to bail us out this year. I find it interesting that some posters think we were awful last year and that somehow bringing in a first round draft choice is going to fix things. The problem is that these awful players are still going to our starters and any rookie will like be just a rotational player. Perhaps the only one who has a chance to start at DE would be Ingram. Any of the other guys getting lots of press will be rotational guys at best.

We have already seen that Rivera isn't against going with an 'unsafe' pick with higher upside like Cam Newton.

But Rivera said that in his mind Cam was a very safe pick. Maybe others felt it was risky but Rivera and Hurney were very comfortable with that pick. Likewise whoever they pick this year will be a "safe" pick in their mind.
