Lucas was actually pretty damn good.

Especially the year we signed him.

Pissed off one of the only good players on our roster at the time. Not sure who started it but Smitty finished it.

Have we ever drafted 1,2,3 that well ever? What a helluva draft. It just makes me wish we could have gotten healthy contributions consistently from Morgan and Jenks. SS 4 LIFE!!!

In 2001, the Panthers picked up undrafted Nick Goings. We win.

2001 Morgan/Jenkins/Smith vs 2007 Beason/Kalil/Johnson (minus the horrible extra 2nd used on Jarrett)

While to me 2001 had more overall talent, 2007 has far and away been on the field much more and still very close talent wise.

Hopefully we can get that kind of talent with our 1st and 2nd rounds pick this year. The rest of that draft sucked. Hopefully this one will be better

Brees would have been first overall and a Falcon, probably still to this day. Smitty would have been a first rounder, might have been a Bear, poor fella. Ken Lucas would have been a third or fourth instead of a second. Houshwhatshisname would have been a first. Rob Bironas and Shayne Graham might have actually been drafted, and Antonio Pierce definitely would have been.

That was a pretty damn impressive draft for us.

Poor Ken Lucas. Don't get me wrong, watching him play in 2008 makes even Captain Munnerlyn look like an All-Pro but he was better fit for a defense that allowed him to be physical. Fox's soft, cookie defense wasn't to his benefit.

I really liked Jarrod Cooper late in that draft as well. He gave our special teams so attitude they have missed in recent years.
