Schefter: Panthers Believe Lafell "poised For A Breakout"

Recommended Posts

LaFell just doesn't have the speed to ever be an elite receiver. There was many times where he was in front of guys, and they caught him from behind. For instance, the Vikings game. He caught a big fourth down conversion late in that game, and had he had speed, it would have been an easy touchdown. On his 91 yard touchdown against the Bucs, Smith had to catch up and block for him from behind, or else the defender would have caught him. LaFell is definitely a good possesion receiver, but he will probably never be elite because of his speed.

Gettis on the other hand has potential. A lot of guys are going to be surprised to see what Gettis can do this year God willing.

I like Lafell i just want to see him become more consistent throughout games. If we got steady production from him in every game he could have easily hovered over a 1000 yards last year, sometimes he would just disappear when we really needed it like when the D we focus all on Smitty or a heavy blitz to pressure the offense on a pass, thats when he can really shine. But there were those couple times he made those incredible plays too, just want to see that increase this year.

It's not about speed it's about route running. If speed was everything then Hayward-Bay or Ted Ginn would be great Wr.

Also on that Play against Minny he sat down in a zone so he had defenders behind him he can't outrun people already infront of him.

I think the more wideouts the merrier. (*cough Green Bay)

If LaFell and Gettis keep producing while Smitty is still cruising along with Olsen at TE...and we also have someone like (let's say at the least) Quick or Toon...along with our quad-running scheme...we become a red zone nightmare for defenses. Saying Pilares could blow up is the stretch but we've seen what LaFell can do with Cam and glimpses of Gettis with Moore and "the" St. Pierre.

I say we should simply target someone to throw some "jump balls" for so we don't have to settle for too many field goals with that Mare f*ck.

I hope LaFell breaks 1,000 next year somehow

LaFell can be a nice piece of the puzzle but he doesn't have break away speed. We need at least one, maybe two guys that can break a play. This opens up the entire field for us. Maybe this isn't the year to do it but we need someone soon. We may not be able to afford Steve next year, even if we can he's only got a few more years. We aren't going to get a reasonably priced WR in here even with Cam. We need to draft one.
