Some interesting assessments as our draft hits and misses since 2008. Keep in mind that these grades are relative to draft position.

Graded higher than I expected: Barnidge

Graded lower than I expected: Lafell, Gettis, Godfrey

Obviously PFF isnt perfect (they have Hilee Tayler listed at DT), but they always have a fresh perspective on players and back it up with something more than just rumor regurgitation.

don't be an amateur. While you may not like their writing style and disagree with some of their opinions, they have at least taken the time and effort to record specialized stats for every single play in every single game for every single player. Certainly there is value created by PFF doing this, and its another piece to the analysis puzzle.

Having compared to their other analysis for we did pretty well by their reckoning.

I agree with their assessment of Hardy, he did slow down at the end, but the rest of his play has been good. I'm not surprised by Godfrey. He gets by with a few highlight hits, but on average is performing poorly and missing tackles.

It also caps off why we aren't a better team in the league. We haven't had a truly dominant player come out the draft during this period, merely solid picks and calculated risks.

Kinda shocked actually said munnerlyn perfromed well, id rather see godfrey in the positives and captain in the negatives.

The fact they spent a 7th rounder on him factors in to there analysis......good draft pick considering he was a 7th rounder. Captain was a good pick. Doesn't mean he is a great player.

They nailed Godfrey. Another example of Hurney overspending for no reason

My reading of the Captain analysis was that for a 7th rounder, a starting caliber slot cb and a solid special teamer is good value. He simply was forced into too much responsibility last year. That said, he still brings value if utilized correctly and not asked to do more than he is capable of. If he was drafted in say the 3rd round, like Godfrey, he would not have been graded so favorably.

and yes, while this overall picture looks bad, many teams fared much worse in PFF's eyes.

This is the problem with fans. You will essentially remember the big plays, highlight plays or plays that go wrong. What's in between these are what fans won't remember. Their grading doesn't ignore or marginalise these plays.

Godfrey is not a good player and other than the occassional big hit near the LoS, he's pretty woeful at tackling. In contrast Munnerlyn was a 7th round pick whose had great success in the slot and had an average season as a starter. Not bad value for money there...
