Smitty is the most entertaining/exiting playmaker in franchise history....no doubt.

Have a hard time putting someone like him as the greatest player in franchise history though. I assume that takes into account more than just plays made on the field. If probably be forced to put him #2 and put Mills #1.

Sam Mills only played three years in Carolina, and they were the last three of his career. Definitely a top 10 Saint. Morgan had much more impact over his career, injury plagued as it was. Hoover and Minter were glue guys but never made a Pro Bowl. Rucker made one. Jenkins was the best in the biz for a year or two but then got hurt. As you might expect with a franchise that is 17 years old, there isn't a lot to choose from. Kasay had as big a part as anyone in getting the Panthers to the Super Bowl.

Mills was also a coach for us after his playing days and an inspiration. Yes a player can be top whatever for 2 teams. The lists are supposed to be of the best and if that player falls into both teams lists then so be it. And making the list has a lot more to it than just making Pro Bowls.

Anyone who doesn't think Sam Mills is one of the all time Panthers greats is plain idiotic. Let's forget that he was a position coach from '98-'04 on top of his three seasons as a player for the team. It was his determination and drive to continue coaching after being diagnosed that defined him as a person. Not many people can do that and his courage when ill and his leadership and inspiration while playing is what made the organisation recognise his impact and honour him since his death.

He is the only player to have a statue and only player to have their number retired. He tops any of these lists.

I don't think the organization would put Smith on top of this list. Any player that punches 3 teammates isn't going to be #1 on their list.

I think there's potential for two different lists, one for on-field impact and one for total impact on the franchise. A guy like Sam Mills who was at the end of his career had a great impact on the team, but in reality his stats during his Carolina years were pretty similar to Will Witherspoon.
