This is what I don't get from people... Please tell me who this monster DT is? Please give a full resume from these dt's that stacks up to Coples versatility, athletism and potential...You can't...We signed Ron Edwards last year and used two early picks at DT theirs no way we draft one...Cople's being able to play inside is just a bonus as to what he could be.

Fletcher Cox

Overall Football Traits

Production 2 "2009: (12/4) -- 29-3.5-1 2010: (12/11) -- 29-6.5-2.5 2011: (12/12) - 56-14.5-5 Career: 5 Blocked Kicks -- 2FF -- 1FR " Height-Weight-Speed 1 Excellent height and length (34.4' arms). Possesses massive hands (10.3'). A bit light in the trunk but has elite top-end speed and quickness for the position (1.66 10-yard split). Durability 2 "Missed Alcorn State game in 2010 due to ankle injury, which slowed him in several other games. Started all 12 games that he played in 2011. " Intangibles 3 Was one of five players suspended for 2011 season-opener vs. Memphis for violating team rules. But really matured during his final season at Mississippi State. Improved dedication off the field (weight room and film room) translated to improved production on the field in 2011.

Defensive Tackle Specific Traits

Versus the Run 2 "Fires out of stance and is strong enough to hold ground in most one-on-one situations when he keeps pad level. Has a powerful upper body and quick, strong hands. Showed much improved awareness in 2011. Can stack and shed in time to make plays at the line of scrimmage. Very good range for a defensive tackle and makes more plays outside the tackle box than most at his position. However, he needs to play with more consistent leverage versus the run. He's not big enough to anchor against double-teams when he doesn't stay low. Gets washed down the line of scrimmage by angle blocks a little too much. Does a better job extending arms and controlling the gap in a five-technique than he does inside at DT, where he's more effective when shooting a gap and trying to disrupt in the backfield. " Pass Rush Skills 2 "Explosive bull-rusher that can collapse the pocket whether he's lined up on the inside or the outside. Can be very effective as a bull-rusher when he stays low. Effective hand-fighter that flashes rip and pull moves. Just average lateral mobility and isn't going to get many offensive linemen off balance with side-to-side moves. Is versatile and can play all along the DL, but best pass-rush potential in NFL is inside. " Quickness (hands/feet) 1 Active and violent hands. Very quick first step. Is quick enough to shoot gaps and make plays in the backfield. Toughness/Motor 2 "Relentless might be an overstatement, but overall motor is very good. Doesn't give up when he fails to win with first move. Not quite as thick or strong as Corey Luigit (Chargers), but shares a lot of similarities in terms of motor and versatility. Pursues hard from behind when there's even a slight chance of getting back into the play. He's a tempo setter up front. Plays with an edge and isn't afraid to get in opponents' faces. "

would be a steal at 9.... no brainer there

will not fall to 9... also pretty well known

EVERY DLineman takes plays off. They are coached to. They have to. The ones they take off are typically the ones that are running away from them or the ones where they draw a double. Both of which are examples of them imposing pre-snap will on the play.

Because you see the guy going less than 100% while he watches a tailback run to the opposite sideline some of you say the guy "lacks motor". That is and will always be very stupid.

just sayin'

That is absolute horse sh!t. You play 100% when you are on the field or you don't play at all. They rest and 'take plays off' when they are out of the rotation.

Being the top tanked DE and being an elite DE prospect is not the same. Coples had success playing in a 3 pt stance. All of his success came as a DT his junior year. His senior year he played with a 4 pt stance as an edge rusher and he struggled. Greg Cosell calls him a power rusher with strong hands. He doesn't have the elite quickness to get around the edge. He projects as a run stuffer. Not a pass rusher. I'll link a podcast were Greg talks about it on WFNZ but to paraphrase he says "He's certainly not Julius Peppers, I don't even think he's Mario Williams"

I'm sure some of you will disagree with Cosell. What do you see in Coples? All I hear is nice measurables. Poe has nice measurables. Neither of them did squat in 2011. Neither of them went up against dominant opposition.

here's the link if you care enough: http://nyc.podcast.p...WKDdHzweKaNZI08

how is 7.5 sacks and 15 tfl not doing squat?his sacks production went down but he still was ever so present in the backfield while playing a new position RDE.

4 of those 7.5 sacks also came against James Madison and Duke. Not many of those teams in the NFL.

lmao

OK Knute. We hear ya. Thanks for proving to everyone that you have never played any organized sports... ever.

And kiddo, you may want to grab a dictionary and look up some of those 4 syllable words listed in the ingredients list on the next red bull you pop. You sound dilated.

    • I mean that’s not an argument I go with… But in ACC play, both Clemson and SMU covered the spread more than Miami.  Miami didn’t cover in 3 games.
