Scp Mock 8.0

Yet another mock from me... I should really stop numbering them.

1st: Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame

I really think there's a good chance Morris Claiborne drops to us, and in that case he's the easy choice, but assuming he's gone we have a decision to make. Defense is our biggest need, but the positions don't match our needs on that side of the ball. Floyd has established himself as a legit top-10 pick and while WR isn't a huge need, it will be in a year or two once Smitty retires. We'd be better off taking his replacement now and letting him develop with Smith so that when he does retire his replacement is ready to go. Floyd reminds me a lot of Roddy White.

2nd: Josh Robinson, CB/KR, Central Florida

We have to address the secondary early and Robinson is the best corner likely to be on the board at this point - though certainly he's not guaranteed to be there - plus he's a great return guy, which is also a big need. All offseason we've added guys who can play special teams while also competing on defense. Robinson fits that mold.

4th: Keenan Robinson, OLB, Texas

We've shown interest in this guy since the earliest reports from the Senior Bowl. He's projected to go right around here and would be great depth at linebacker with potential to start if/when T.D. goes down again.

5th: Ladarius Green, TE, Louisiana-Lafayette

Shockey may or may not be re-signed, but either way we need to work on grooming a long-term 2nd TE to pair with Greg Olsen. Ideally we bring Shockey back and by the time he retires in a year or two Green is ready to step in and produce.

6th: Julian Miller, DE, West Virginia

He could be gone by this pick, but there's a good enough chance he'll be there when we pick here. IIRC, we've shown some interest in him and he could be a good value as a situational pass rusher/rotational guy.

6th (Comp.): Drew Butler, P, Georgia

Baker is gone and punter is an obvious need. We'll have to draft one as we don't need to go into the season with an UDFA at punter. Butler isn't the top punter, but we'd likely have to take Bryan Anger in the 5th to get him, so I'll take Butler a round later.

7th: Travian Robertson, DT, South Carolina

A flyer in the 7th round on a developmental DT who hopefully can become at least good depth in the middle of the defense.

Waited too long to go D-Line

I agree. If we go offense with the first pick, we have to go DL in the second. We need a guy from this draft that can contribute by rushing the passer. Of all the big needs I think we have (DL, LB, CB) I think we can get away with not taking a CB. Butler, Hogan and Munnerlyn can all at least play IMO.
