Day 2 of 2009 Draft

Wewt.

Wild day yesterday.

5 picks today.

3rd

2x 4ths

5th

6th

Go Panthers!

I was wrong in my draft and both M. Johnson and Gilbert are both still available in the 3rd. I think one of them needs to be our 3rd round pick whether we trade up or wait. We need to land one of these guys to help our pass rush. Both I think have 1st round talent and in the 3rd would be a steal.

Still need depth on both lines

With next year's 1st rnd pick we got an under-sized DE who looks like right now better suited for LB and a questionable (IMO) CB.

I wouldn't totally be surprised to see those positions picked again.

Since we really didn't get a big boost to run game D, I do expect to see depth at the lines addressed - especially at DT (although all the big DTs are gone.

And yeah, I do expect Fox/Hurney to wast...er, use a pick on a QB.

As long as we don't trade our 2011 1st round draft pick to move up...

I would love to see us get both Michael Johnson and Gilbert somehow. That would be crazy, I would give the draft a A if it happened.

    • He's in the building and I heard after one of Dave pressers reference Eric. He made dave some 3rd down models and success rate of certain play calls. The many details too much to list.  You know Tepper is a analytics guru, he finally got one of the biggest NFL analytic brains in Eric. Will it = success ??? No clue, but you got to believe they are using his models. Best I recall Eric was a founding member of PFF and worked there for 4 or 5 years, then did consulting around 2022, and tepper gave him a huge bag and what ever job title he wanted.  Personally I have never cared for PFF, its just like another forum members opinion. I do not follow the NFL like a hardcore fan and my opinion of PFF has changed some. If I don't have any clue on a player, using the PFF report is a ok start.
    • My concerns about Walker have nothing to do with who I'd take and everyone knows who that is anyways. If we're taking a 3-4 OLB, I'd rather they be someone who would be a full time pass rusher, who if/when we switch back to a 4-3 in the near future, can seamlessly transition into being a full time DE, which I don't see Walker being able to do. And don't take this as me saying I don't like Walker in general, I think he could be a very good player.  I just don't like taking him at 8 given the positional fit issues with him.  I'd rather take someone with a lower ceiling but a higher floor because they fit a true position, not someone who is going to be alignment and situation dependent like Walker is likely going to be, particularly early in his career.
