My Completely Uninformed 5 Round Mock

No trades. Sticking at #9. Claiborne's off the board.

Round 1, Pick #9

WR - Michael Floyd - Notre Dame

michael-floyd-600x300.jpg

He's going to be BPA at #9. Good size and speed paired with great hands and awesome body control. Look up the highlights, he can work a sideline like nobody's business.

Smith's getting up there in age and I'd rather be proactive than reactive with finding another #1. LaFell made major progress last season, but he'll never amount to more than a #2. Yes, Gettis has great speed and showed some flashes in his rookie season, but he wasn't impressing the coaching staff before his injury last year... and he's coming off an injury.

Round 2, Pick #40

DE - Chandler Jones - Syracuse

-038e5331b4dd4514_large.jpg

To be honest, I'm not even sure why... but I have a mancrush on Jones. He's not some elite, polished end who I think is going to come in and immediately set the league on fire, but he's got the type of skills I like to see in a prospect. And, that rawness is something that Rivera and McDermott should be able to easily mold.

He's got a nice combination of size, speed and strength and there's no question about his motor (like there is with Coples who most want at #9... whether they're unfounded questions or not). With Rivera being happy with the current DT's, this could be the pass rush that Rivera is looking for. A rotation of CJ, Jones, Hardy and Keiser isn't a bad one by any means.

Round 4, Pick #104

OLB - Emmanuel Acho - Texas

Emmanuel-Acho-598x.jpg

It's no secret that we need LB depth across the board. Bringing back Senn this offseason has helped, but I think everyone agrees that he does more to bolster the ST squad than our LB depth. Yeah, he had some nice hits last season and definitely overachieved when he was forced onto the field, but he's just not someone I want to be forced to rely on.

Most will probably see this pick and say, "Well, why not Keenan Robinson, the FO's already brought him in?" And I agree, he'd probably be the better pick, athletically and physically speaking. But, Acho outperformed Robinson in their senior seasons. Plus, Acho's a pretty intelligent kid.

Round 5, Pick #143

CB - Coryell Judie - Texas A&M

783144067.jpg

I'd really love to see what Hogan can do with some more time. He looked pretty good in what little time he got last season and hopefully with a full offseason and being health he can really impress. BUT, I'd also like to add someone behind Gamble who isn't the size of a Cracker Jack prize.

At 6 foot and posting a 4.44 forty time, Judie finally gives us another CB with the athleticism to at least be able to reach the top shelf in his kitchen. He could also give us another option in the kick return game which would give him a role while the coaching staff coaches up his CB skills.

Round 6, Pick #180

WR/RB/KR/PR - Chris Rainey - Florida

rainey15s_544992e.jpg

Alright, so first of all, MIKE TOLBERT IS A FULLBACK. At least for next season. He'll pick up goal line/short yardage carries as well as the passes out of the backfield that we used to use Olsen and Shockey for occassionally. So, that leaves us with DeAngelo and Jonathan as our main backs (Vaughan better not make the roster), so I feel like that leaves room for another back.

Rivera has said that he wants another scat, Sproles-like back and Rainey could offer that versitality. Yes, he's small, so I doubt we'd see him line up much at the wideout position, but coming out of the backfield on passing downs will result in major mismatches. And that doesn't even include the returner aspect of his game.

Low risk this low in the draft, major reward if he does half the things a lot of people think he can do.

Round 6, Pick #207

ILB/OLB - Brandon Marshall - Nevada

brandon_5.jpg

Time for "why the Hell not?" drafting. Had a productive senior year and has the versatility to play in a 3-4 and 4-3.

Round 7, Pick #216

WR - DeVier Posey - Ohio State

poseydisaa.jpg

Again, "why the Hell not?" Size. Speed. Skills. poo for brains. This late in the game, he could be a diamond in the rough and we could be lucky enough to have a log jam at the WR position. A legitimate log jam... not one that include Kealoha Pilares and Armanti Edwards.

UDFA

P - Drew Butler - Georgia

x6k5m1pe.jpg

Jason Baker's gone and we need a replacement. Hopefully Butler would make it through the draft without anyone grabbing him. He's got the leg and accuracy. Hopefully Cam can keep him off the field though.

Now pie me. Or tell me I'm dumb. Whatver.

I think either Blackmon or Floyd will be on the board when we pick at 9, but our needs on defense are rather extreme. I'm guessing Rivera will be looking at CB at 9, but if the value isn't there we might just go BPA.

The Panthers have shown interest in Chandler Jones, so we might take him in the 2nd.

If we do end up on the offensive side in the first, the 2nd round becomes very interesting because if we don't trade up or something we'll have to wait till the 4th to pick again. So its 1 pick choosing between DE, CB, LB, & DT. I like the Chandler Jones pick in this scenario.

Other guys I would consider: Dennard, David, Worthy (if he falls), Josh Robinson, Bobby Wagner, Hosley

Acho is a solid choice in the 4th and I don't think we'll be drafting a safety after our recent moves (I really want Brandon Taylor)...so not that bad of a direction here. Nice draftin

i wouldn't mind Worthy with the second pick (although I think we'll stick with what we have at DT this year), i just don't think he'll be there. and i'd actually prefer Jones over him

You get 0 for structure and effort on finishing this draft. You get a 9 out of 10 for the picks themselves. I'd love to see what the finished product would be...so finish you draft please..

my ADD is too hardcore... this was my second attempt at putting together a mock... i always get pulled away to something else, hence only 5 rounds

    • I know most of this place doesn't favor Bryce, so I'm preaching to the choir. Also - screw the Broncos and Peyton.   Okay, with that being said... Seeing what Nix has done this season is something we should all tune into.  Why?  His first two games were, well bad would be putting it lightly.  He looked in over his head, pro-level shocked, you could see the anxiousness.  He needed to settle down in the pocket and adjust to the game.  And you know what? He did just that.     And as the season has progressed, he has got better and better each week. All this through OL injuries and weapons like Sutton, Vele (who?), Lil'Jordan Humphrey (who?) & Mims, he has managed to ascend and bring himself into ROTY contention over Jayden Daniels & Brock Bowers.   And he's making advanced throws, layering in the second level, put them in position to beat KC the other week until the ST unit lost it. The short version of my point - Bryce's recent "progression" is relative.  This is the type of progression you would like to see as a season goes on and a kid gets adjusted to the pace of the NFL. Bo Nix Notable 2024 Stats (Through 11 games): 19 TDs (14 pass, 4 rush, 1 rec), 6 INTs, 2,275 pass yards, 295 rushing, 65.5% comp, 6.4 YPA Last 5 games: 10 TD, 1 INT, 1,193 pass yards, 115 rushing, 70.6% comp, 7.4 YPA
    • In theory, that has ready happened. That guy has more lives with this organization than a bushel of cats, however. I want to believe we finally move on. I really want to believe.
