Coming Down To Coples Or Kuechly

I HATE our position in this draft. We need to find a way to trade down imo.

So since you want neither Coples or Kuechly who is it you actually want with our 9th pick?

Yea we should have lost a couple more games and we would be sitting pretty

Don't want either. Coples scares me with his dissapearing acts and on again off again motor. Half of his sacks came against duke last year. And we already have a luke k. On the team. James anderson. Both rack up tackles and are decent in coverage. But neither really pressure the passer.

For those of you saying he wasn't asked to rush the passer doesn't mean he can't, would you take a pitcher who you' ve never seen him pitch? Any lb we take will need to replace davis. Davis is a great pass rusher and playmaker, can luke really excel at anything but tackling?

That is a poor comparison. He actually has 3 1/2 sacks in his college career and 7 or 8 quarterback pressures so to say he has never done it is innaccurate. It wasn't a big part of the BC scheme but that hardly means he can't. Use this analogy. If you are drafting a pitcher and here is a guy rated the best pitcher in college who has a 100 mph fastball and a tremendous curve do you worry about whether he can learn a slider because he didn't use one in a game and go elsewhere because you are afraid he won't be able to do it because he never has.

If you use your logic we would have never drafted Davis and converted him to a linebacker. He truly never played that position in college. And as for being a great pass rusher Davis has never had more than 3 1/2 sacks in any season as a pro.

As for whether Kuechly can do anything but tackle, go through all the threads on him already you will see he has as good measurables and better production than Patrick Willis coming out of college doing more in 3 years than Willis did in 4 years. Yes his combine numbers are just as impressive and his production was better. Would we have a problem drafting the next Patrick Willis or Dan Morgan at number 9 this year. Kuechly is all that.

really bad position 2 be in. Not high enuff to grab Morris Claiborne and to high to grab a solid player like Luke Kuechly. Trading down would be the best unless something happens where we move up and crab Claiborne.

Oh i'm sorry a whole 3 1/2 sacks.Davis was reguarded as a athlete and coming out many assumed he might move to LB anyway. Kuechly has been noted to not play as fast on the field as his 40 states. Why do we need to take a kid who is not a athlete and try to make him replace one of the better athletes on the team?

Luke Kuechly

Strengths:

  • Instincts that are truly rare
  • Nose for the ball
  • Extremely intelligent
  • Rock-solid tackler
  • Takes good angles
  • Very advanced ability to shed blocks
  • Strong hands
  • Produces good down-and-distance situations
  • Gets deep in his pass drops
  • Reads quarterback's eyes well
  • Surprises with ability to run downfield with pass receivers
  • Student of the game
  • Proven leader by example; passion for the game
  • Durable, experienced starter
  • Consistent, reliable producer

    Weaknesses:
  • Lacks great speed
  • Not a super athlete
  • Closing speed is not special
  • Not an experienced blitzer
  • Could use another 10-12 pounds of bulk

I think DL is the most likely 1st round pick, despite the talk about the Panthers loving Kuechly.

if Coples isn't there?

Who then? Rivera is pretty straight up about things. DT isn't a huge need and grabbing one that early would be high and comparable talent is there much later.

You keep saying this but he has invited all the top DT in for a visit. Maybe you need to forget the Idea that we won't take a DT.

You don't think teams who originally are set to

pick in the top 10 research who will go later in case they end up picking at a different spot? also have a 2nd rounder. Plus of a guy they have slotted as the 12 best player falls to say 25.....they may want to make a move. They just don't bring in the top 9 on their board and skip to

the next pick

No reason not to put a lot is stock in what Rivera says until proven he does pointless coach talk....

He says DT isn't a huge concern so I am going to stick with my educated assumption he won't draft a guy at 9 when could a comparable guy to MUCH later

They don't only invite guys for their first pick, they also invite guys who they think will be available near the pick in the second round.
