Coming Down To Coples Or Kuechly

Patrick Willis ran a 4.51 in the combine which is better controlled and more accurate. Pro days are held in the athletes back yard with their own folks. The times are notoriously unreliable. So yeah I think a 4.51 and a 4.59 are very similar. Why not measure the more important ones like the 3 cone drills and the agility drills which are more important.

I guess you didn't know that Kuechly played WLB his freshmen year and was second in the nation in tackles.

Wait..... didn't you try to use Gettis' pro day 40 time a couple of weeks when you were trying to convince me that Stephen Hill and Gettis were comparable athletes with the same measurables??

Was his pro day and combine times different? I don't remember every post I make. Glad to know my conversations are so noteworthy that you remember all the details for weeks. What did I say?

Yeah who would you rather have? A Patrick Willis/Dan Morgan type linebacker or a larger version of potentially the next Vernon Ghoulston..

I don't think you can go wrong with either Keuchly or Coples. But Coples just reminds me ALOT of Mario coming out of college. He is getting all of the same knocks that Mario got, has the same athleticism, has the same body, same production...The only difference is that Mario had a huge combine and Coples had an "expected" combine. Gholston was a tweener more similar IMO to Ingram than to Coples, he didn't have the ability to play multiple positions like Coples does. Coples had 18 sacks in two years and one of those years he was playing defensive tackle.

The reason I don't want Keuchly is because we resigned Thomas Davis. If you want to take an OLB in the draft at #9 then that's fine...I was on that boat earlier this year before Davis was resigned because our pursuit from that position sucked. But I don't get resigning a guy and committing money to him then going out and drafting the same position in the first round just because you think he might get hurt. If Hurney wasn't such a tool and could actually draft guys in rounds 3-7 who come in and play then it wouldn't be an issue because there are plenty of guys in the later rounds who could play OLB in our scheme (Terrell Manning comes to mind). I watched games with Keuchly and Manning and Manning is very good player and could be had in the 4th round.

You said that Gettis ran a 4.39 40 (which was reported from his pro day) and was generally dismissive of the fact that he actually ran an official 4.51 at the combine compared to Stephen Hill's 4.36 official time.

I remember everything!! :P

You were pretty butt hurt about the whole Stephen Hill thing. What do you think now. Think we are going to draft him?? Have we brought him in???? Much ado about nothing I suspect.

How many times in the past have we drafted guys we didn't bring in for interviews?? Several. We have talked with him twice now though (combine and pro day). My guess is we realize there is no way he falls to us in the second so we aren't spending much time with him face to face.

Also sometimes you bring guys in when you aren't completely sure about them. Just because you are invited to an interview doesn't mean a team is sold on you, and conversely, even if a team doesn't bring you in for an interview doesn't mean there isn't interest.

I don't believe Clausen was ever invited to Charlotte two years ago.

I dont want any DL

I want Morris. I wanted Dre, but something in my gut is saying dont draft him. I wanted Luke, but it just seems like except Morris none of these guys on D will be big play guys on that next level. Defensively its stacked, but the top talent is on O

Other then the 2 QB and 2 Olinemen this draft is filled with defensive talent.

You got Trent, you got about 3-4 WR. I know they'll make a quicker and bigger impact on O than anybody else on D except Morris

You got a bunch of avg. wr that people are overating because there is no AJ green or Julio Jones in this draft. That either will go to the Rams, The Jags or Browns. Be the only weapon and have to face teams best CB and get shown how avg. they really are.

You have 3-4 DT that can start from day 1. 5-6 Cb who are going to be starters. 2 Safeties 1 will be All Pro. Alot of 3-4 OLb and Alot of young 4-3 LB that you can get in middle rounds and develop. I don't want Kuechly but he will be a good Lb for a long time.
