How Bad Do We Need A Cb? Read This!

My case for drafting Dre or Stephon Gilmore with our first pick. First and foremost Gamble is paid like a top corner but i was not impressed last year. I know our dline brought little to no pressure last year so he was left on an island too much. BUT.. i saw several plays last year where he got burned like toast. Butler and Capt both also looked lost as the number 2 guy. Hogan, Capt and Butler all are limited by size. I want that rangy, tall and fast corner like Gilmore or Kirkpatrick. Both have 3-4 inches on our existing backups to Gamble. Imagine this for a moment if our secondary loses Gamble to a injury ala Beason/ TD last year. A secondary with Hogan, Capt and Darius would get eat alive. It would be as sad as our linebackers depth this past year. Granted Hogan would likely step out of the shadows and play decent but overall it would not be pretty.

Stopped reading after bold. The only CB I'd consider taking there would be Janoris Jenkins unless somehow Claiborne falls

Ok maybe i overstated my impression of Gamble. Yeah, he is solid and honestly has been a Probowl type player for us. SO.. one or two plays keep replaying in my head that's all. Plays where i said who was that? What happened there? Just saying we need to prepare for the future eventually. Much like the Smith situation we need to start grooming a new star. Dre or Gilmore with Hogan and Capt is that future.

no takesies backsies

Chris Gamble is awesome but, mick eye is right. You look at the receiving targets in our division and we need a #2 corner who is as good as a #1.That could be Hogan, we'll have to wait and see, but if he falls through I'd love to have Gilmore or Kirkpatrick ready to take the reigns.

there is 3 high level prospects in this draft. claiborne, kirpatrick, and jenkins. Claiborne is dumb as a box of rocks and thankfully wont fall past 5. Kirpatrick and Jenkins are eqaul in ability and both have had off field issues. of the 2, Ill take jenkins. (edit...actually i do beleive jenkins is better than kirpatrick...go figure) it seems from everything ive read on him that his experiacnces have indeed humbled and matured him. Jenkins is the best choice we have and is not a reach at Number 9. This is a good pick for the front office, and they should take him.

Jenkins is insane with talent and is a just outside of elite draft prospect...he is an even higher off field risk...

Gilmore and Kirkpatrick both covered Julio Jones(in practice) and the AJ Greens of the world....not as great a cover corner but both with elite size. gilmore is more a pure CB where Kirpatrick is mayber more a safety sooner than later...no more position switches please..

Everyone keeps saying Brandon Hogan but we've seen next to nothing from him on the NFL level. He's an unknown, stop touting him as the answer when we know nothing about him.

Yeah, we should keep touting Jenkins/Claiborne/Gilmore/Kirkpatrick as the answer since they have WAY more NFL experience. <_<

A few points:

1) mick eye, the statement about Gamble was off the mark. He was a top corner in the league last year. Glad you reconsidered to some degree.

2) Jenkins is 'dropping' right now, not rising...d/t he off-field issues. Stupid move to take a guy with character issues top 10.

3) Jenkins is very talented, but this years draft is probably 1 of the best there have been for CBs...why reach?

4) I agree that we do need another starting quality CB & size would help, but Darreel Revis is 5'11" (& he's a decent CB! ;) ).

5) This is even if Hogan ends up being a very good CB, which I hope he will.

6) We should not take a CB in the first round unless for some reason we trade down (Claiborne will not be there at 9).
