Gregg Williams Urged Saints To Injure 49Ers

Don't forget what happened 6 days later when Giants actually did go after Kyle Williams and was the reason they advanced to Super Bowl!

If you're like me, when you heard the part of the ugly Gregg Williams audio that touches on the concussion history of 49ers receiver/return man Kyle Williams, you flashed back to the aftermath of the NFC Championship Game. Remember? When Giants special-teamers Devin Thomas and Jacquian Williams said they'd known about Kyle Williams' concussion history and played with that in mind? Here's a rundown from late January in the New York Times:

It appears Kyle Williams' concussion history was discussed among Giants special-teamers before last season's NFC Championship Game.

"The thing is, we knew he had four concussions, so that was our biggest thing, to take him out of the game," Jacquian Williams said of Kyle Williams, who had replaced the injured Ted Ginn Jr. as San Francisco’s punt returner.

Devin Thomas, a wide receiver and special-teams player who recovered the ball both times, said: "He's had a lot of concussions. We were just like, 'We've got to put a hit on that guy.' "

The Giants went into spin-control mode a few days later, with players such as Justin Tuck and Michael Boley saying they'd never gone into a game with the intent to injure anyone. And NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said in that same Times story that the Giants were in no trouble from the league because "players are held accountable for their actions on the field" and "there were no illegal hits to the head or neck area against Kyle Williams on Sunday. There was no conduct by the Giants of any kind that would suggest an effort to injure Kyle Williams in any way."

Before final game, Gregg Williams urged Saints to injure 49ers

Before his final game as defensive coordinator of the New Orleans Saints, Gregg Williams stepped before his players and urged them to physically hurt players on the 49ers. Audio of Williams’ speech to the Saints’ defense was captured by filmmaker Sean Pamphilon, who is working on a documentary about former Saints player Steve Gleason, who is suffering from ALS. Pamphilon has put part of the audio of the profanity-filled speech on YouTube. Pamphilon also passed on the audio to Michael Silver of Yahoo Sports because, he said, he was extremely uncomfortable with what Williams said about trying to hurt 49ers quarterback Alex Smith and other players.

Audio of the speech:

I know it doesnt have anything directly to do with the Panthers, but now we do have a good idea of the things he said about Cam, Smitty, DWill, and company. We also know that it wasn't a performance system. Clearly they were head hunting. Really interesting audio, actually shocked me a little bit how intense he was.

A spot in the Superbowl on the line? Guy with a history of injuries? Yeah i'm going for the knockout, i'm bringing the wood. Sorry but this is big boy football.

Nobody is arguing that there aren't dirty players outside of the Saints organization. The problem here is that the Saints defensive coordinator paid his players extra money for playing dirty and succeeding in injuring a player, while the head coach and GM knew about the program and lied to Goodell that they wouldn't continue the program once it had been discovered. Two completely different things.

Hate to break it to everyone, although there is no excuse, almost every locker room has a Coach that thinks and speaks that way. They may not pay players to actually inflict the pain, but they insinuate it in one way or the other. I in NO WAY Support any of this, whatsoever. Just to make that clear. They just got caught and the BOOM has been laid down upon them.

Talking about hitting hard, playing hard, etc. I have no problem with any of that, nor with violent metaphors like "kill 'em" and such. That sort of thing, I would agree, everyone does.

But this...

We need to find out in the first two series of the game, the little wide receiver, No. 10, about his concussion...

...he becomes human when you [expletive] take out that outside ACL

We need to decide how many times we can bull rush and we can [expletive] clip Vernon Davis’ ankles over the pile...

If there were anybody in our locker room talking about inflicting specific injuries on specific players, I'd want him gone.

I want to buy a steak dinner for whoever the idiot/genius is who took this recording.

EDIT: Still think it's Shockey, Warren?

warren-sapp.jpg

It was a documentary film maker, it's in the first paragraph of the thread. The idiot is Williams who made these statement in front of a documentary film maker.

And this isn't who tipped off the NFL. They were tipped off years ago and this happened this year.

So are player who have had a concussion supposed to be allowed to walk into the end zone untouched or maybe two hand tag rules?

I just love how their players, coaches, fans all try to get on TV and try to act like they are so innocent and want everyone to feel sorry for them. They won't the same kind of support they got for Katrina

the LA Senate passed a resolution for the NFL to reconsider the punishments! LOL
