You know what would really help our front 4? Beason and Davis. That had a lot to do with our inability to stop the run last year.

Poe is not going to have a Suh like rookie season, he is not worth a 1st round pick in the top ten, that fool is a tool, if our run DEF got better with Shirley, Neblett and Kearse, I don't see DT as a need, especially when we started 2 rookies for 10-11 games..

So? Suh is an absolute freak and a once a decade+ type talent. You might as well never take a DT with a top pick for the next several years because you're probably(definitely is the better word here, but crazy stuff happens) not going to find a DT that can have the impact Suh had in his rookie year.

That said, Poe is awful. You know it's bad when your best highlight reel is your combine workout. Someone as freakishly athletic as he is should have had better results on the field.

Do you have the premium DVOA/PFF for that data? Basic DVOA has us at 32nd against the rush.

Look at the power ranking versus the 2nd level rushing. On power running which is largely a function of your line we were 18th while second level runs we were 31st. Also keep in mind that on DVOA you get 120% for rushes resulting in a loss and 0% for runs of 11 yards or more for example. The fact that we were 32nd is a function of the big runs we gave up which is a secondary and linebacker issue, Overall we were 24th at 4.6 yards per carry but we were tied for 25th with 15 plays of 20 yards or more and tied for 26th with 4 plays of 40 yards or more.

Well yeah, but Rivera/McDermott preferred speed last year in base 3 lineman sets. That's why they'd move Johnson to the 1/2 tech, then have Hardy/random DE flanking.

I don't think you want poe lined up over tackles but it could be interesting. You'd at least seal the edge like a boss.

I think a lot of his issue was that he was doubled all day and he really isn't a typical nose tackle kind of guy even though he is big at 350 lbs. I think he would be more effective as a 3 technique guy due to his speed and explosive first step. If you look at the tape he was more effective coming off the edge than he even was in the middle. Of course he can learn better leverage technique but I think like Kris Jenkins his value is penetrating through a gap not playing read and react.

There are definitely better prospects out there, but there is no denying this guy has all the tools to be great. With the right coaching, he can be a big time force in the middle of the line. Nobody knows how he will be in the NFL, and I laugh when people act like they know how players will be. Just like when people thought Cam was just the worst pick ever and couldn't play QB in the NFL. I think Poe could be the same type of guy. He could prove a lot of people wrong with his natural abilities and talent. It all comes down to work ethic, which from what all I've seen, he has a tremendous work ethic. He just hasn't been playing football that long and needs some professional coaching to get him going.

Newton had one of if not the most productive season in college football history. Poe did absolutely nothing in a weak conference. People doubted Cams ability to translate his game to the NFL, people doubt if Poe even has game in the first place. How did Cam become the rallying cry for mediocre prospects everywhere? Good grief.

For the 1st time in a long time, I have confidence in who our coaching staff selects, but I don't think that it'll be Poe.
