That is a big improvement just as I said. If we had better linebacker play that 5.17 would have been even lower but you can't fault the line for so many running plays which were not stopped by the linebackers or secondary. The big gashes you refer to were failure of the linebackers to make tackles on the outside and once they broke line containment. We were much better up the middle which was the DTs responsibility.

With Edwards, Shirley, Neblett and Kearse we will be a lot better. Add McClain and Fua have a year in the system and We don't need any DTs in the draft. If we draft anyone it wil be a guy who can play inside and outside.

Kearse did show something though. He could be a solid backup.

I wouldn't say the same for Nebbles and Shirley but Jason did show some flashes of being ok.

I analyze the facts and then formulate my thoughts accordingly there is no spin to it. Look at football outsiders and analyze the run defense like I have and see if you don't come to the same conclusion.

Notice that our power rank is 18th but in second level runs we were 31st. Who was responsible for the discrepancy??? It isn't hard to figure it out.

Shirley played in 4 games as a rotational guy not a starter and had 2 1/2 sacks. Some DTs don't have that many for a whole season.

Neblett started 2 games and rotated in all 16 but had solid numbers with 23 tackles and 2 1/2 sacks as well. Again good numbers for a rotational guy.

Kearse had the fewest sacks at 0.5 in 4 starts and six total appearance along with 10 tackles. He got the most starts but I am not sure he was the most impressive.

If he's the best player there, sure sign the cat up. There's nothing worse than forcing a draft pick because you need a position fixed immediately (looking at you Jacksonville).

I've looked at Kuechly stats and they are very impressive. I was thinking of someone else with our 1st and Zach Brown with our 2nd, but know I'm thinking Kuechly with our 1st and hopefully Janoris Jenkins with our 2nd.

Kearse ws the NT and his job was to command double teams and clog up the middle, which he did a ok job at. he wasnt on the field to collect sacks.

dolphins and bills are switching back to a 4-3, but teams are not taking non pass rushing LBs high.

I like Shirley and we need LBs. The D-line got good penetration last year especially early on, but the LBs couldn't clean up after them.

Then you should see plenty of ILB's going in the first, as there are 2 more ILB's when playing the 34.

What it means is that the positions value is diminishing in todays NFL.

Go back and take a look at how often RB was drafted really high in the past...like say 30 years, and compare it to today. Same can be said for LB.

Order of importance goes a little something like this: QB, DE, OT, DT, CB.

The positions that Hurney likes to draft high, and resign for major bucks is not high on that list. LB's and RB's that don't rush the passer are no longer "cogs" like they once were.
