No you are wrong as usual. THey did pick DT in 3 of the 7 drsafts we are talking about. Johnson was only coordinator for 9 seasons and they didn't have a first rounder in 2007 and 2008.

They picked Simon in 2000 and he had some success in 2003 and made the pro bowl otherwise he was not that great. So they invest 2 picks back to back in 2005 and 2006 on household names like Brodrick Bunkley who is now a Saint and the great Mike Patterson. Neither has done anything. What does it prove?? That Johnson had to keep going to the well because their staff can't judge defensive line talent. In the end he still never had any dominant DTs. How about that great DE they drafted number 1- Jerome McDougle in 2003.

So what I get you saying is that we should draft a number of defensive line busts in the first round so we can be like Philly since we run a similar scheme???? Right????

If you really follow football you would know that Bunk and Patterson were not busts at all.

Also you would realize that the three best 43 D's don't use first round draft picks on LB's.

Our defense has been pretty good under Fox actually especially until 2010. What to guess how many top 10 finished we have had? Yeah it has been 5. SO I would say that formula has worked pretty good. Why not compare that to the Giants in the past 10 years. They have had a top 10 defense 4 times.

So I guess our way is better than their way right???

Lets see what happens under Rivera. He has been here for only 1 season. Can't evaluate his system for a few years.

You are now in over your head. I guess you would have to know that prior to being a Panther fan I was an eagles fan for 30 years and still follow them. I know more about them and football than you will ever know.

None of their defensive line picks in the first round panned out besides Simons. Bunkley is not even an Eagle when they didn't resign him, he went to Denver and now he is a Saint. Patterson is decent but is not a probowler by any means. He reminds of when we had Damione Lewis a good starter but not spectacular.

What we are discussing is that there are different ways to build a team. Some build it throught the draft, other through free agency. There is no one specific way to do it. Our defense over the Fox era for example had more top 10 finishes than the Giants. The Eagles have had more top 10 finishes than either the Giants or Panthers but have no Superbowls appearances during that time, so maybe defense is the only ingeredient necessary. And our formula has been as good as most others. Even then the new formula is still largely untested.

Well lets see.The eagles have had the best defense over the past 10 season and have had one supr bowl appearance in 2004, they lost. THe Panthers have had the next best defense over that period based on top 10 finishes in the regular season and we appeared in 1 super bowl and lost. The Giants have had the fewest top finishes of the three and went to 2 Superbowls and won both.

Football is a team sport and defense alone doesn't win Superbowls so this whole discussion is actually a little ridiculous and judging a teams defense on their number of Superbowls is largely a nonsequitor,.

Lets discuss a more relavent topic when discussing wins and Superbowls. Of the Panthers, Giants and Eagles, who have had the most stability at quarterback during that period?? Yeah the Giants. Who has been the most successful because of it??? The Giants. What has been more resposible for their success during the period> The defense or a franchise quarterback????

When did we have our most success??? When Delhomme played well in 2003 and 2005. When did the eagles have the most success? When Donovan McNabb was having his most success.

So this whole defense discussion related to wins is really a huge bunny trail. Teams win Superbowls usually because they have great quarterbacks who comes up big in big games.

We don't need a backup we have plenty of those already, we need a starter if Beason or Davis go down. That list you provided was pitiful. Of the guys left, there was no one who would be an upgrade over who we already have.
