So we should not emulate a team that's won the Superbowl 2 of the last 5 years.

P55 everyone...listen to him.

Yeah, let's throw away all the progress we've made in trying to install Rivera's defense, and just start copying Super Bowl champions. Copy Super Bowl winners and win Lombardis, why didn't I think of that? Genius.

You add their DLine to our team and 1 CB and I'd say we'd be in the Superbowl for the next 5 years/

You add the Pittsburgh Steeler defense to our team and the Patriots offense and we will win the Superbowl for the next 5 years hands down.

For that matter let me settle the whole thing on madden and we will go undefeated and will win the Superbowl every year from now on.......

Are you saying that improving our defense which was ranked 31th last season will improve our team? Someone get Rivera on the phone.

I didn't realize that the Giants invented having a good DL and multiple cornerbacks. Pioneers those guys are.

They know where to put their priorities. You build the lines and then fill in the skill positions

lol I don't play Madden.

We draft RBs and LBs and see where it got us. 7-9. you add Kuechly to our team and you are simply perpetuating that 7-9 mentality.

I want Dlineman and a CB.

Actually I don't play madden either but apparently we would have lots of volunteers. I want a D linemen and corner as well. I want Beason and Davis to both come back 100% and not have any issues at all. I don't like to have to consider another linebacker in the first round after spending for Davis and Beason in years past.

But unfortunately that is where we are. I would have no problem picking Coples or Claiborne if they are available. Frannkly unless Smitty gets signed pretty soon I have no problem getting Floyd or Blackmon if we have to pick a number 1 receiver right away.

But if we decide to go defense and Claiborne and Coples are not there, then I like Kuechly to shore up one of the biggest weaknesses on the team which is linebacker. What used to be one of our biggest areas of strength is now one of our biggest weaknesses.

That is one philosophy. The other is you strategically upgrade the skill positions which make your lines look much better than they would look otherwise. Look at the Jets and Baltimore who count on their back eight to make the front 3 look good.

IMO, DT and CB should be the top priorities, but if Hurney has Kuechly graded out as the BPA at 9 when we pick, I'm fine with that.

Why?

As long as we add a quality CB somewhere between the draft and the season opener, we should be much better on defense. The defensive system we run isn't as vanilla as Fox's was. His was based on generating all your rush with 4 DL and letting the CBs do their job. That is an awesome and easy defense to run when it actually works. But, it's hard to consistently get that pass rush from your front four, unless you have a DL with 3+ perennial probowlers.

Our system is predicated on aggressiveness, pressure, and different looks. Fox hated to blitz, this system almost always involves some sort of blitz or wrinkle that creates pressure from an unexpected position. At least that's how I understand it.

Sure, another DL wouldn't hurt, but I'm confident in Hardy as a Top 15 starter at DE eventually, we know Johnson is, and it is possible, although I wouldn't bank on it, that McClain or Fua end up being decent.

It will simply come down to whoever is the BPA at 9. If Claiborne falls, this discussion is all for naught anyway.

Not really sure Terrence Cody, NGata, and "Kruger" look good because of the back 8

Remember their job. Stuff the run and take up space so the linebackers can fill and make the tackles. Ngata is huge at his position and certainly a great player but the rest on Baltimore and the guys for the Jets are good but not outstanding. It is really the design of the defense. The front 3 are not supposed to be superstars but rather big bodies who take up space and keep linemen from reaching the second level. The back 8 are your playmakers. As I said, Ngata is an exception to the rule though.

Then you should go have a little chat with Rivera and convince him to CHANGE the defensive scheme that we are going to run. You cannot compare positions on teams that run completely different schemes.
