I think this is where we go. Set him up and let him loose. Let him go inside and out of our lineup like a Justin Tuck. Have Charles Johnson setting the edge. If it pans out it could help us on so many levels, while also filling one of our biggest needs. Pass rush is key in today's pass oriented game.

Interestingly Casserly wouldn't take him in the top 10 and would use him as a primary pass rusher to help him gain confidence not seeing him as an every down player.

Is that really what we want at our number 9 pick??? Or does he have a lot more potential than described in this article???

Not sure what to make of Coples after this article. Always thought Casserly was a pretty good judge of talent so based on this I think the Panthers stay far away.

It is interesting to see how he would not take him in the top 10.... It's definitely a more risky player. But, responding to mega, in all fairness, just about every player is an "if".... I don't know who we take with this pick, after thinking about it further. I almost would want to trade down, but I don't know who would want to trade up to this position, and why they would want too.

Casserly is a crazy old man that hates non white QBs!!

I am not a fan of him and neither are 32 NFL franchises. @ Pantherclaw: not a grain of salt...a giant mine of salt!!

IMO Lombardi is awesome if you hear him break down why he does like or does not like a guy. His Kevin Kolb breakdown is flawless and accurate last year when there were all these suitors for him.

Just kidding about the racisim...but im pretty sure he locks his car doors if a guy with a hoodie walks by...thats not white..

if it pans out it could help

if it pans out

if it pans

if it

if

Everette Brown

Well jeez, what is the bust of drafting any player? They all could be a bust.

Coples is not comparable to Brown at all. There is a reason one fell to the 2nd round and the other will go top 15.

"I think Coples is a prospect who needs to be in a style of play where he comes hard off the ball and has some room to operate, with not a lot to read at the line of scrimmage. This is when he has played like a first-round pick."

This right here pretty much makes him a non-fit here in Carolina. When watching games last season Hardy and Johnson always did a good job controlling their gaps vs the run and getting outside pressure against QBs in passing attempts- in fact they do it pretty darn consistently. The issue was the entire interior section of our defense: inexperienced DTs, abysmal linebacker play (this was the biggest issue, will fix itself with beason tho), and poor safety play.

We simply do not have the luxury of plugging in Coples into a scheme as a pure pass rusher, and even if we did, would he even be that much of an upgrade over Hardy? We've hardly seen what Greg can do especially with a healthy set of starting linebackers behind him and some experience at DT next to him. Sure Coples is impressive physically at 6-6 285, but Hardy is pretty damn close at 6-4 275.

Honestly I think we are being pressured into this pick by mock draft analysts (or being misled by poorly informed analysts) due to him being similar to peppers. Sort of how when Deangelo/CJ were going to be FAs, we would let them walk, or now how everyone thinks we will trade Jstewart for something ridiculous like a 4th rounder. People see the panthers as a team meant to draft good players then unload them for next to nothing for the big media teams like the cowboys and jets.
